dreadhead method

Dreading Methods

So...you now have a bunch of candles hanging off your scalp? I went that route once and it ruined 2 sets of pillowcases, one set of pillows and a bunch of hair before I cut them off and had to wait for my hair to grow out long enough to let it do it's own natural thing. I MUCH prefer NO WAX.

My first real comparison with a waxy dread head

Dreading Methods

Sary~I had a bunch of people try to 'shame' me into combing out my dreads. They are for me, though, so I persevered. I wore lots of hats and sccarves while they locked up. Here is a link to the hats I learned to make out of necessity ;o) http://www.facebook.com/# !/pages/Dancing-Umbrella-Wearable-Creations/135526413173683

Eeew that's disgusting!

I really liked what you said, it's very inspiring. I am almost a month into neglecting my hair and I love it...it's good to read stories from other people who love their hair too :)

Green stuff??? EEEWWWWWW!!
My dreads are all natty with lots of wispies. I used to fret about the wishpies until I took a closer look at the dreads of two women I greatly respect. Both of them had the wispies. ;o) These babies are nearly 3 from when I lost my comb. They are fat and thin, and lumpy and curvy and wispy and full of character. One of them has even swallowed a beaded wire wrap that I put in at about 18 months in. I wouldn't trade them for evenly sectioned dreads now, although I thought I wanted perfectly sectioned, pencil thin, evenly rolled dreads when I started. These are mine and mine alone

Help! Save My Dreads

So glad that you have come out of the darkness and into the light. I, too, tried all the concoctions that were deemed (albeit by the ones who stood to gain monetarily) "good for your dreads". I attempted dreads twice by 'forcing' them and using wax, lock peppa, back combing. Both times I ended up cutting them off and waiting for my hair to grow long enough to start again. After the second hair cut I realized that the lesson I needed to learn was PATIENCE. It took nearly 2 years for my very fine, very straight hair to lock decently enough to be called dreads. I am incredibly happy with my loopy, bumpy, unevenly parted, ziggy zaggy dreads and all the fly aways associated with them. And thankful for the lessons learned while waiting for the little beauties to show themselves. Happy dread journey to you G!

WHY I HAVE DEADLOCKS CAMPAIGN! help put dreadforums on BLAST! :)

Introduce Yourself

I don't have a camera but will tell you why I have dreads. I am a 60 year old tattooed and pierced woman who just wanted another way to assert my independance! My dreads were done using the "where's my comb?" method ;o) and took about 18 months from messy hair to "Your dreads are looking good!" I love my white dreads! I worked for a very short time for a woman who told me that I had to wash my hair because it was obviously dirty. I calmly informed her that my hair is much cleaner than hers because I don't use chemicals, gels, sprays, etc. Then I quit!

Do your dreads the best way for you. Just make sure that they are healthy. Much love to my dready brethern and sisters <3

Starting locks round 2

Introduce Yourself

I used the "OOPS I lost my comb method" also called Natural Neglect method. I have heard that the tnr method works quite well. As far as attending your special occasions, if you do decide the neglect method, how about getting a couple of nice scarves to wrap your head with, or a tam? I have a hair tie that stretched with my dreads, (I am in trouble if it ever breaks or I lose it!) As my dreadswere forming I pulled them into a sort of pony tail at the crown of my head. When they were still fairly young, one of my friends said it looked like I had a little explosion happening! Don't forget that clean hair locks faster than dirty hair (too much oil in most people's hair) and a good clarifying shampoo is necessary. Dr. Bronner's diluted 12 parts water to one part shampoo with some essential oils added is a good way to go and it is quite cheap over the long run.

I have questions about dreadwax - yes, I'm really asking this here lol

Dread Products

I used wax from DHHQ. All it did was leave my hair sticky and smelly. I ended up cutting off those dreads, combing out what was left and went with natural/neglect dreads. It took about a month to get all that sticky mess out of my hair.
