Reasons for starting your dreadlocks?

General Talk

I have always wanted dreads since i was middle school. When I did finally started them I told myself I'd be different "better" if you will. So I made changes. I let go of some things and people holding me back. I became focused on my goals and dreams. I have made big change in my life and I believe my dreads to represent that change. As I grow my locks grow. I have more growing and I know my dreads will represent the new growth. I feel I'm on the right path. It's not about the outcome for me, but the it's the journey. Progress not perfection.

What Color to Dye my Dreads and How to Dye Them??

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

so if i do get bleach what should I do to prevent my dreads from falling out? Melanie Leontine said:
I am always playing with the color of my dreads (I keep the very top blond).

If you want any outrageous colors like hot pink or bright blue you will have to bleach the hair first. A good natural one is a clay bleach by a company called Herbe. It is a hair salon product so you will have to have it professionally applied.

Bleaching will weaken your dreadlocks, it is unavoidable. Having said that I have been bleaching mine for about 9 years and I have managed to keep them in great condition.

If you do not want to bleach but want outstanding color then PPS Full Throttle reds are amazing. They are SUPER bright and come in about 10 different shades of red/orange.

A very natural, healthy option of coloring dreads is to use Henna colors that not only look fabulous but are actually very good for your hair with earthy tones and long lasting color.

What Color to Dye my Dreads and How to Dye Them??

i don't think my hair will take any color unless I bleach it first. I've tried a punk semi permanent dye without bleach. Did nothing but stain my shower floor and a lot of my lighter clothing.

I want to add color to my hair. I've always wanted color in my hair ever since I was 6 or 7. I feel know is a good time. I have dark brown hair. If I want any color to show I will need to bleach my hair first. I would like a mix of warm colors. Any suggestions?

The quickest method?

Dreading Methods

For me when I do nothing with my dreads it grows faster. I started my dread journey knowing it wasn't a perfect style and that I was doing it for me. Sometimes I do like when my dreads look neat fresh and clean. I do maintenance to where you can see parts and my scalp. However I'll go months without doing anything to my but get it wet it in the shower. It can look pretty "bad" if you let my friends say it. So I'll do full wash and retwist whenever I want my dreads to look clean and neat again. I find different joys in both high maintenance dreads and in zero maintenance dreads. And if your friends find joy in doing high maintenance just let them. It's not like your dreads are effected by how they do their dreads.

Dreading Methods

i feel for dhhq. I almost bought the products again until I cam across this site. I had about four or five dreads break off while I was using the lock peppa and spray products. Every since I stopped no more of my babies have fallen out. I think it's awful how dhhq products are hurting people's hair. I feel very strong about my hair, I thought I was making the best choice for my hair. It seemed legit. For me having dreadlocks is so serious I didn't think dhhq would be selling me lies.
