Dreading Methods

I have been using a wool pillow case. The back is knotting up good. Its the sides that arent. I think its because I dont sleep on my sides at all. Normally I do, but with triplets and co sleeping and breastfeeding, I now sleep on my back with a baby attached to each boob all.night.long. lol. Alden said:
If you TnR now it'll be like starting over, I'd just go to a local Good Will store and see if you can't find a 100% wool sweater to use as a pillow case. I've been using mine for a week (maybe less) and I fuggin love it!!! It's been doing obvious good for my hair!

Its not NO progress just SLOW progress. Look at my timeline. Nothing knotting on top. All underneath. And in back. soaringeagle said:

Growing More & More Impatient

Dreading Methods

*sigh*I so wanted to be patient and just go natural. But I'm cracking. I'm at about 2 1/2 months and I've hit a dead zone. Nothing seems to be locking up. Especially the sides.I'm debating doing some Twist and Rip on a few to help them along. Will it help?

A Little Over 2 Months In.....

Dreading Methods

And I'm starting to panic. Just a little. Trying really hard not to but I can't help it.My hair is knotting. But weird. Little balls of knots at the end of semi-dreaded hair. And its half the length it used to be. :/.Does it look like it should look? Am I doing anything wrong? I wash every other day with the BS and ACV. And I separate constantly. Like 3-4 times a day. Plus, the sides of my hair dont seem to be doing anything. Not knotting or tangling or anything. As I said, trying not to be a freak, but I just need some reassurance I guess. :)

natural vs. do it yourself

Dreading Methods

Yep. I had crochet for 9 days. I loved them at first. On day 4 I found this site. From there on I just got more and more antsy about them. I felt like a fake. Much like I felt when I dyed my hair a dark brown (Im naturally a blonde). It felt phony and unnatural. My dreads AND my inner self.On day 9, I took all the crochet out. Took me 3 days. It hurt like hell. I lost tons of hair. Im now on Day 56 of Natural. To answer your question. Natural. 100% totally more rewarding. It 'feels' right. It feels good. It feels Natural. I would never recommend anything but. Honestly, not even TnR. soaringeagle said:
well neither of u went natural b4 so your giving your opinion on your method not answering the question as asked
i also only went natural and theres no way in hell id ever go any way but natural..
but

again thats not answering the question

however nicole 4 instance had em crocheted and combed out to go natural
i know shed really recomend that naturals the way to go

however i do think this should be left to be answered by those who did try diferent ways natural vs made and not just posting theyre opinions based on what they did..unless they did try both

considering cutting my dreads and starting natural

General Talk

Sounds like you already know what you want to do. :)I think shaving your head on the days of your childs birth and starting your dreads that day is amazingly symbolic :)

crochet to natural

Dreading Methods

Mine were done TIGHT. They werent unraveling AT ALL. :/ karen said:
Makes sense to me...thats where I am now, I got mine made then found this site, im allowing them to come apart on their own...Honestly I cant imagine going through the time and pain to brush them out...but im enjoying the process of unraveling, I know what you mean by feeling like you hadnt earned them.

Im still torn about whether, when I get back to ireland, to come them out...ill see how much more they unravel by then :)

Well, I didnt like the way the looked first off. The separated sections bothered me. Then, I found this site and started reading. I got dreads to start new. I felt like I cheated by getting them jump started. I felt like I needed to start over and do the process (in my mind) properly. The crochet ones just felt wrong to me somehow. Foreign. Like I didnt earn them. Make sense?
