DAY 262!!!

Dreading Methods

Yep. And sleeping on a wool pillowcase too. :)

I did try T&R on a few but it still taking a long time, plus the T&R is making the ends go different. On the natural ones. the ends are blunting, but on the T&R ones, they arent.

My hair was wavy/curly before.

DAY 262!!!

Dreading Methods

Thank you so much everyone. I feel so much better now. I feel like my hair dreaded 'oddly'. I think that when they do mature, the ends will be blunted naturally. The ends are just big fat, flat knots and the middle up to the roots are rounded. My husband asked me "Why are yours dreading all weird"? Um, thanks honey. That sure helps the self esteem. :/

But I feel much better now. All your comments helped a ton. :)

DAY 262!!!

Dreading Methods

Going into my 8th month! This is Day 262. I am getting kind of frustrated though. The sides just DO NOT want to dread. At all. I am thisclose to just trimming them up to match the rest.

Into Month 7 Of My Natural/Neglect Dreads

Introduce Yourself

I started them June 21st, on the Summer Solstice.

Other than the shrinkage, I love them.

I added to my timeline on here too :)

Nicole's Dreadlock Timeline: Recovery From Crochet, Going Natural

Member Journals and Timelines

I got my Dreadlocks June 8th, 2010. I had them crocheted, only to find this website 4 days later. This is a timeline of my Dreadlocks. Recovering from crochet and going natural. They were only crocheted the initial time. I'm really hoping doing this timeline will help me resist the urge to take them all out and start over. I see a difference already, in the first week. I think.
This is Day 1. June 8th, 2010

2nd week, day 8. June 15th, 2010

Well, they are all finally out! 3 days and 7 hours later. Not fun. Anyways, my hair is now pretty much a tangly mess. We had to leave 3 of the crochet dreads in and 10 at about an inch because of the knotting. I was just losing way too much hair. :/
We did some separation after it dried, I slept on it and it knotted up again. And got all loopy. I'm hoping this is all normal or I may be starting from scratch with no hair :/

Ok. This is going totally natural. All the crochet are out.

Day 12

Day 20

ONE MONTH!! 30 DAYS!

44 Days. Tons of loopies andknots on the bottom layer and top, all in the back.

Day 52. Are all those knots underneath normal???

66 Days

Day 77

Day 93

Day 190ish (I'm losing track. lol...)

Worried About Separation Or Lack Of..

Dread Maintenance

Thanks everyone. She is at about 3ish weeks and it is getting better. We still cant get all the way to the roots but Im not as worried anymore. We are working on a timeline now too. She is looking so so good. Even her Dad, who was not thrilled with this idea at first, is liking them :) Im so proud of her.

Worried About Separation Or Lack Of..

Dread Maintenance

Ok. We added some beads to help with the seperation but its not working. In one day her hair is a mass of knots at the roots. How much seperation is necessary? Do we need to get ALL the hairs, all the way down to the scalp? Or can there be a slight webbing of hairs? It is so painful for her when I seperate them. They are knotting up so fast her scalp cant keep up it seems. Im worried that they are going to congo and then she will hate them. Im at the point now where I am wondering if this si right for her. She doesnt want to take them out and they do look amazing now, but I am worried that the lack of seperation is going to get out of control.

So, is 'just enough' good enough or do we need to be getting ALL the hairs?
