ACV Rinse

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I don't think it will be too conditioning. I really suggest trying it out and possibly alternating with Baking soda. You never know until you try and it's really a miracle worker for bad scalps!!

Introduce Yourself

Welcome to the site. if you keep your hair clean they will not look greasy, if you don't wash then any method you choose will look greasy. The two are not related. i suggest you read the faq and decide what method is best for you. Good Luck and keep us updated!

Finally decided to start dreads over (wax=bad!!!)

Member Journals and Timelines

wow you have awesome hair! your dreads were lookin really good before you cut but i have much respect for your decision to start over naturally, especially after a year. You need to be happy with them that's most important. I'm sure you will love this set that much more now! Also i just have to say you look JUST like a young Mike Gordon the bass player from Phish!! <3

I've a MAJOR dilemma resolved!!

General Talk

WOAH 6-700$ for DREADS!? that's insane! IMO i would try and use your position to teach people about healthy dreading methods and not wax/crochet or otherwise. there are plenty of professional hairstylists that refuse to use certain methods on hair because it's too damaging etc... If you use a method you KNOW to be bad then no matter what you say to the customer they WILL blame you when it goes wrong. Plus you probably don't want to be part of the problem, so be part of the solution!! Many Blessings (((oops just realized i replied kinda late to this so how'd it go??))) Alden said:
So, I just spoke with the owner of the salon and found out exactly what they're looking for.
They need someone to come in once a week to teach the stylists how to dread hair properly, and they need someone daily to dread customers as well. The owner told me that the last girl was charging $100 an hour, flat. Sometimes more, depending on hair length and thickness. And of course it can take in excess of 6 or 7 hours for one head. I thinks that's absolutely ridiculous. Scamming people out of $600-$700 on average for something they could do at home.I can't even entertain the idea of charging that amount of money for the work involved. So I'm going to the salon tomorrow to really talk shop with the owner and get this ball rolling.

Updated :)

Atom, I think that is your call. For me, I had to take them out. My dreading is a spiritual journey for me and I felt like I cheated by getting the crochet. I thought that was the only way to dread caucausin hair. I dont regret taking mine out at all. It was the best, albeit hardest, thing I have ever done. And I have 9 kids. lol. It was HARD to get them all out but we did. Now here I am on Day 30 of natural and I am SO happy I took them out. :)

Nicole's Dreadlock Timeline: Recovery From Crochet, Going Natural

Member Journals and Timelines

welcome! It looks like you're on your way now! The crochet dreads looked painful, were they? You're gonna love going natural, especially after all this. I'm glad you've already decided on that because i imagine your hair is pretty damaged after the crochet & removal. Any other method would surely cause more damage to your already fragile hair. Many Blessings!

Ah! crazy unraveled root. please tell me what you think

General Questions

actually in a way i think u should be glad! That just means u didn't T&R it too tight. If it's done too tightly it seems to end up looking braid like and i can't imagine it's too good for the hairs? (no offense to anyone, i know cavewoman likes the natural look) So they will unravel a bit and lock up in just the way they are meant to!!

sea salt, baking soda, and the whole crazy cave women look

General Questions

yea i hear ya it's good to try different things to figure out what works best for ya, nothin wrong with that! I'm just not that motivated!HA! So i'm thinkin the one you're pointing to is like that because of the ponytail?? My last set i had for a couple years and i wore it in a high ponytail all the time and they kinda formed weird. Maybe it was a freak thing but i couldn't wear them down comfortably. But a lot of people have to wear em up for work so just make sure u wear em down or in a tam when you're home. Also did u T&R? that could be it too. Maybe the roots unraveled a lil?? Either way don't worry they look great on ya! They are going to turn out beautiful!! Much Love
