Why?

General Questions

yea i guess i was initially referring to people making dreading so complex but also life in general, i suppose it stems from that. If it's simple it can't be good! I feel the opposite way. Simplicity is so beautiful. Life can be pretty easy if you let it so can dreading! LOL at the phd in knotology!!! Johnny is to blame for some of this but so are a lot of people for giving him such an easy in. Many Blessings!

Hola!

Introduce Yourself

PLEASE don't crochet!! Especially if you have dry hair. It WILL cause your dreads to fall out eventually. It's extremely damaging and very hard to stop. Read around the site a bit and i guarantee you'll find some crochet horror stories that will change your mind! Palm rolling is pretty pointless and also damaging if done too much. Backcombing also not a great idea if your hair is dry, it too is damaging. Don't cut your hair let it grow and try to even out. It looks pretty short still in the front. Just stop combing and conditioning and gradually your dreads will form. Why wait?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Yea for zig-zags and loopies! I don't have one dread on my whole head that's not loopy or crazy shaped! It gives them character, glad to see your embracing it and not trying to "fix" it.

:( le sigh. Vanity problemos

Life Issues Facing Dreads

Don't let em get to you mama! Feel good about yourself and even if they never like them they'll eventually get sick of saying it. If you remain unaffected by their harsh words there will be no reason for them to say anything. If you let them see that it is bothering you they might not stop until they think they can get you to cut. Good Luck and Be strong!

Thread in dreads!! oh no!

General Talk

man if i had a dime for every time i heard about someone going to a foreign country and getting their dreads butchered i'd be 1/2 way to the farm i wanna buy! Sorry for your luck, especially since you were trying to do a good deed. As long as you remove the string ASAP you should be fine. Just remember the longer you wait the harder it will be to get out! The dreads will eat the string and the roots will become weak. Maybe if u can get a friend to help u with the back ones so you don't miss any.

Anyone else have this problem?

General Questions

i really think with the ripping it gets worse before it gets better, You may be just before the stage when you don't have to rip much anymore, that's what happened to me. The thing is everyone's hair is different. What happens to me won't necessarily happen to you or anyone else. Just hang in there, try not to worry. At 5 months they are still going through so many changes. Kind of like their adolescence. They are still trying to find their way. Just accept them. Many BlessingsMiDread said:
I am about five or so months in. Not really in the "early-early" stages anymore. I know that fuzzy is natural, and my hair has a tendency to be fuzzy anyway if I don't dump tons of conditioner on it. But, it is really fuzzy and my dreads are almost like velcro!!! :) I am beginning to think maybe it is the texture of my hair (unfortunately).

I wasn't really considering "conditioner" per se, but maybe some aloe or something might help control the congos a little. I've been separating every day since I started, but lately it seems like I have to do it constantly and it seems like my dreads just want to meld together in one big beaver tail or something. Maybe it is the humidity - it REALLY makes my hair curly, more than normal.

I haven't had long hair for very long. I kept it cut really short because it is so curly, so I am not used to dealing with longer hair issues and then dreads on top of it. Was just wondering if anyone else had these issues with their dreads or if it is just my hair type. Thought maybe someone could say "oh yeah, my hair does that all the time and this is how I deal with it."

The fact that Jake has to separate all the time makes me feel better. Oh well, will give it some time. Maybe this fall when the humidity stops I will see a big difference in the texture.
