The quickest method?

Dreading Methods

Natural is faster IMO. Other methods give you the illusion of "dreads" right away but real mature dreads take time no matter what.

I would be DYING if I couldn't wash my hair for a month!! eek! It's probably going to be itchy, possibly scabby and really hard to deal with. I would definitely wash your hair as soon as you feel you need to. Dirty hair doesn't lock well. Someone else JUST posted about the same situation. You should really read this~http://www.dreadlockssite.com/forum/topics/itchy-and-scabby-scalp-help?commentId=3754945%3AComment%3A164659#axzz0uvq3UZ7L

Just getting starting

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

i wash my hair every 2-3 days and have no problems, everybody's different though. See what works or you! I personally think wearing a hat to be is silly and would be uncomfortable but you could try it i guess. I think that the movement your hair gets at night while tossin & turnin helps them knot up though.Matt said:
would you say its okay to wash my hair more often then twice a week? they say clean hair locks up better then dirty hair so would it be smarter to wash my hair every other day rather then every four? and also they say wearing a tam to bed helps, i have an under armour skull caps that is like skin tight, its really snug on my head. would that help as well?

Glad you found some helpful info! Try not to stress too much just continue along with wax removal methods even once you feel all the wax is out. Forget about your hair for a while, try not to look in the mirror too much and embrace your loose hair, all the bumps and loopies that's what makes them unique! Many Blessings

loose hair... yet again

Dread Maintenance

crocheting and ripping out your loose hair, I'm sure has made your situation much worse. I don't think you have proven anything except that when you mess with your "dreads" too much you really fu*k em up! Dreads aren't rocket science. If you leave your hair alone it WILL dread! Don't blame SE's advice blame your own impatience! It sounds like you want to cut so go ahead.

Need some Advice

General Talk

HA LOL that's funny cause i saw your post first and replied to it! We found this bamboo growing outside and it was maybe 6ft tall. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. He just slices the bamboo into the size he wants to make the bead and because it's hollow it's pretty much all set. He has a dremmel he uses to carve in whatever design he wants but you don't even have to do that. Just let it dry out for a while after and then pop it on! Eventually it turns brown and shiny it looks really cool!Atom said:
Lol I just saw that other post just like this one.. But I actually grow bamboo. I gotta bunch of it.. How exactly does he do it?? N Ima definitely check out the peyote stitchin stuff! Thanks :)

my hubby makes really cool beads out of bamboo we found growing around here! I don't know if you can find any where you live but we just got lucky that someone happened to be growing it in their yard. He cuts it into pieces and uses a dremmel to make designs. Peyote sleeves are pretty easy and cheap to make once you get the hang of it. maybe not the type of designs that knotty sleeves makes but a simple one with just stripes wouldn't take you long to figure out. Look for a guide online. Rings work well too.

Help with Beads????

Dread Products

just remember to be careful with beads in dreads that are not mature yet because they will get grown into your hair eventually if you just leave them! If you don't mind that than no worries but it can cause the dreads to stay skinny where the bead is and fat on either side of it. That makes it impossible to get out!I seem to have the opposite problem with beads, i can always find the small holed ones but rarely find ones big enough to fit my dreads! etsy is a great resource though. I also make my own peyote stitches and my hubby makes beads out of bamboo and carves designs in them with a dremmel.

Welcome and I'm glad you found us! Please don't re-backcomb! That's severely damaging! The rest of your hair will lock up. Did they use wax? If so follow the guide for wax removal. wax will slow down the locking process as will palm rolling all the time. Just remove the wax if you used any and leave your hair alone. Separate if the try to congo (join together) at the roots. Good Luck
