well its your hair, at the end u will do what u want, whatever u feel like doing...i'd like u to save a few inches, because it will save a huge amount of time ,if u cut off only the dreaded part u will have same length of hair as well exactly like if u'd grow from shaved..u could have some dreads in few weeks time instead of like a year...i might sound discouraging but i don't mean it bad... i had a shaved had and it looked ridiculous...

seems to me from reading the discussion that the idea of shaving/starting all over got into your head and nothing can persuade you otherwise. i just want to say be careful if its not one of those mad decisions that wont go away until its done and u gonna regret it as soon as u do it.personally i cant see 1 reason to cut out your dreads, they r awesome and its gonna take minimum of 2 years to grow it back and its gonna look like it looks now more less, with 2 killed years... it is very possible u gonna be deeply dissapointed as well because it might not be exactly as u imagened it (because it seems to be the case with your current dreads...) just an opinion. think about it..;)

twist and rip s good method, but u might lose your patience cause it takes long time... maybe do few one day, few another day....about washing.. simply stop using ordinary shampoo and start using dread soap of your choice (any organic soap should be ok)sleep the way u feel comfortable, i don't use any hat in bed but its up to u.generally the 'afterwards' is much easier than 'before'.. let the dreads be, sometimes wash it when u feel like...and enjoy life..but im sure there are a lot more experienced people here than me...dreading is not a rocketscience some people claim it to be, it just happens..

i think its generally in peoples minds that guys should have fat dreads and girls skinny... billshit like all the stereotypes... another thing is that everybody tend to like 'the others' dreads... so if u by any chance feel u'd like something else, its normal...i like your dreads...

u r 32??? family shouldn't be your concern, u r an adult, supposed to have your own life and own style.. this really should not be an issue in your age. im 30 and my family doesnt have a right to tell me anything other than respectful 'how r u' or 'what is your opinion' sort of stuff. never tell me what i should or shouldnt do, cause i know better.

so if u have a family which likes to tell u stuff into your life, in your age they have no right anymore and you have the right to tell them off if they do...

i wish u good luck in overcoming the obstacles...;)
