help with wrapping my locks :)

General Questions

You can use embroidery floss which should hold up pretty well. I've used hand-dyed hand-spun wool (it looked soo pretty) as well. The wool will felt with wear and wash, and my concern was it would felt into my hair, but it didn't for shorter periods of wear (think like 3 weeks to a month is as long as I kept mine in).Ribbons are another alternative, but would need to be the right texture (not too slippery) and right width (smaller).

Need some advice. How much did you pay for your speeding ticket?

General Questions

I don't know about CA, but here in OR my husband got a speeding ticket and it was reduced by half for him showing up at the court hearing. Which consisted of everyone who got tickets at that time sitting in a courtroom and the judge calling out their files then they stand up and go to the window to pay and since they showed up in person to handle their fine, they got it reduced. If he hadn't shown up, he would have had to pay the full amount. Anything like that in CA?

Nothing? Really? That's All I Have To Do?

Dreading Methods

Life is usually so complicated, and we are mostly all used to society and culture telling us we have to manage and maintain everything, that it seems too simple to just let go. Letting go is part of it, and the first step. That's what starts the spiritual journey I think of dreads.

Hello- new here, dread hopeful!

Introduce Yourself

I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter having Autism... I cannot believe the number of parents I always come into contact with that have autistic children, sometimes more than one in the family. I know what you mean about it coming into your life for a reason... and as hard as it is to be "that" person sometimes, it's the inner strength that drives you to make a difference and be a catalyst for change in the world.People can be so mean sometimes; I've been berated myself for my beliefs and lifestyle (by strangers, friends, and family, whether it be for my birth choices, not vaccinating, vegetarianism, anything I do really) and it's all just so foolish and selfish of others to not listen and give themselves the chance to learn something new, but instead to lash out at others because they want to attack what's different than their choices because they assume that if you did something "good" then maybe they are doing something "bad" if it's not the same. You sound like such a strong mama! It sounds like you really are walking down a path of discovery for yourself with the dreads :) How cool.

Hello- new here, dread hopeful!

Introduce Yourself

Hmmm, yeah, a lot of people think they're dirty, and they encourage bugs/dirt. My husband had the long-ass black hair (as did I have black hair to my waist and baby bangs in front) and was a metal/death metal/black metal dude for years. for some metal guys that had long hair or dreads, you always knew those guys that just totally had gross dirty hair/lifestyles, so I can see how it could be his assumption coming from the genre. Lots of "neglect", and lots of guys with clean long hair too.I'm happy for you he sounds more open each day to them. They take a while to grow on people. My husband tells me that dreads are for people who are strong inside because it is such a definite difference that people notice and have strong opinions on in most cases so some people cannot handle the reactions and carry them off. Whether or not he's right, I don't know :) But I do believe I know what he means. The t&r you can do pretty tiny, but keeping them from congoing together will be your maintenance. I had little t&r around my face and they found friends and became one (they still aren't big by any means, mine are pretty much on the smaller side I'd say). Also, be prepared that when he really sees you with your own dreads, he might just change his mind and be incredibly drawn to you. Mine did that (wasn't against them to begin with tho), and i've heard of others doing that too. if guys can dig the Nature aspect of things, it's like seeing you become empowered and strong to their eyes, even if you already were, it's a physical embodiment of that light within you. A sense of self, and confidence is so alluring. That's just my interpretation though..

Hello- new here, dread hopeful!

Introduce Yourself

Welcome! I'm going natural route, into my day 50-something right now.Have you identified what's making your husband feel so against dreads? Do they represent something to him, or make him feel like you are becoming "someone" else? I'm thinking if you can get to the root of this issue he has with them, then perhaps it can be a journey he supports you in, if that's what you want. There's a lot of info here on how to do t&r to achieve the best results, and how to go natural too. I hope you feel at home here, and enjoy your new journey. It really does help bring you closer to yourself, and in turn create a great sense of oneness with the world at the same time (natural route really seems to spawn that feeling the most IMO).
