Is there a "proper" way to seperate dreads?

Dread Maintenance

I've got 2 month old dreads. My hair is super fine and although it is reluctant knot up the dreads I put in, it LOVES to try to make them congo. I pull them apart once or even twice a day. Is there a correct way to do it to minimize hair ripping? If I miss a few then when I find them again I can hear the hair tearing and I hate it!

Trouble with the roots of super fine baby dreads

Dreading Methods

Ok, I've been leaving them mostly alone, no root rubbing. I did have to brush about three out and redo them, because between roots and tips, there was literally only about an inch of actual knots. I'm seeing some progress of the roots coming together, but they are also trying to knot to each other. What's the best way to separate them so they don't congo? I've been pulling them apart, but some are worse webbed together than others, and the hair wants to rip.

Trouble with the roots of super fine baby dreads

Dreading Methods

Hi everyone! Tonight my little dreads are officially four days old! I started them with Twist and Rip. I love how the main part of my dreads turned out, but I'm having some trouble with the roots.First off, you have to understand, I have really, really fine hair. Like, take what you think of fine hair and go 10x finer. I've felt baby hair that was thicker than mine. It is also very oily, and it is also very healthy. Combine those three and you've got incredibly slippery hair. My hair is also very dedicated to staying the exact way it comes out of my head, which is stick straight and blonde. Seriously. Years ago, I got two perms in two weeks and the curl still slid right out. I tried getting my hair streaked fire engine red and it was the color of rust right from the start.Anyway, when I put the dreads in, I followed what I read here and did not dread it right to the scalp. But now, I've got a 1 1/2 to 2 inches of straight root on each dread. I've been washing my hair daily because otherwise the roots would be greasy enough to oil a rusty hinge. I bought some wool yarn and made a little square of wool to rub at the roots some as well. I haven't sat and dedicated time to messing with the roots, but a couple times and day I'll bend over so the hair hangs and rub it for a minute of so. Any other suggestions of how to help super fine roots knot up? I know there will always be some straight root, but the amount I have now just seems ridiculous. Here are some pictures I took of them.
