Shaving baby dreads off-Receded hairline

Dreading Methods

Awhile back i made a post regarding the fact that my hairline was receding somewhat on one side. Months later the problem has only progressed and for the first time i am actually considering shaving my head bald.I know there arefellasout there with amazing locks that have receded hair lines but..well read on.

It is too bad too cause everywhere else is full and thick and sprouted baby dreads. What makes it worse though is that it has only receded on the one side, not on both. Which makes it lookreally uneven, particularly when hair is pulled back, Now i have considered getting the edges/widows peaktrimmed like http://hummingbirdlovegorilla.wordpress.com/ to help compensate, though i cant say how it would look on me.

Currently i use a combination of castor oil/jojoba oil on the scalp though i cant report any positive effects yet. So if you know of any other herbs, shampoos, methods, anything at all that are rumored to help stimulate the scalp/regrow hair feel free to post. Thanks much ya'll.

Concerning the use of rubberbands.

Dread Maintenance

Interesting. I think yours might be the first hand account of someone with mature dreads actually using rubberbands. I can see how they might help keep the sections in place. I wouldnt use that many tho just incase i forgot to take a few out;wouldnt want them to get swallowed up.

Cathy said:

Yup, when my hair was being dreaded the bands were in to hold them in their sections and since then I've found that they keep the dreads nicely seperated and actually help them dread - sometimesI miss it when one comes out and the dread has quite a bit of straight growth at the roots.

Sorry to hijack the thread!

Concerning the use of rubberbands.

Dread Maintenance

K i know we all reccomend against rubberbands but there is this one baby dread in particular that i wanted to use one on. I seperated it from its brother couple months back cause they looked a lil huge together, but as they have grown longer i see now they are literally meant to be together. They are joined at the root again i think but not the tip. Would it be best to use one on the tips then?

Dreads seem thinner 1-2 days after wash...?

Dread Maintenance

I myself have noticed what seems to be a little thinning on a few of my babe-locs. I dont know if this is because they are getting longer or what

Dread Growth or lack therof

Dreading Methods

So i think most of us are aware of the fact that once dreading occurs, shrinking does as well. But have any of you fellas or even ladies with less then shoulder length hair when you started ever felt like your hair just stopped growing all together? Granted, my baby dreads standing up are as tall as my afro wasSeptember of last year, so i guess that is a good sign but damn. The suspense is killing a brutha wondering if his hair just stopped growing completely. I am trying to tell myself if i just go to sleep wake up and in about a year look in the mirror ill see a difference but i dunno lol.

Hairline Dreads- Last to the party?

Dreading Methods

So i am about three-four months in and the front hairline has not made much progress. At all. Which is disappointing given that everywhere else i have dreads. Baby dreads, but dreads none the less. I dont over-condition with oil treatments either at most i do them once a week. Given my nappfrican hair made such great progress the first two months, what the hell gives?

Do you consider yourself a hippie?

General Talk

I dunno it always seemedto me that hippies had positive vibes and ideals, but also unrealistic ones as well. That and it seemed like many of them were very self-indulgent in the whole drug/sex/rock scene, which is no path to enlightenment if you ask me. There is kinda a negative stigma attached to the term "hippie", so i think a more positive one that comes to my mind is "Earthchild".

Apparantly johnny clean now sells hair growth vitamins

Dread Products

I have done alot of research into this topic. What i have come across is that key vitaims such as biotin, maganese, copper etc all contribute to healther and faster growing hair, as the story goes. Rosemary as anyone can tell is rumoredto be effective as well, but i have yet to find scientific evidence that such claims are truly valid. The average person can expect to have hair grow a half inch a month, too an inch. The fact that Johnny Clean is selling a hair growth vitamin suddenly is pretty hilarious to me. I would try vitamins from a company that has been doing this for decades not some wax dread-dude upstart.

Alot of it thoughmight haveto do with how well you treat your scalp. Jamaican Black Castor Oil for instance, when applied to hair and scalp, many people report faster hair growth and their hairline filling in. Making your body healthier from the inside, shows quite clearly on the outside. Who knows perhaps part of the reason SE has grown such long hair is in part due to his healthy diet of vegan foods.

Beginning My Dreads! :)

Introduce Yourself

I got hair like you (Though even african hair can have subtle differences amongst them). Get yourself a nice organic shampoo to start. Getting yourself some double twists can produce that nice manicured you are looking for. If someone tries to throw wax your way just say hell to tha no and use Aloe like SE said, instead. I understand the appeal of wanting to look professional for your job certaintly cause untill they actually morph into dreads, it can look nappy.

Other then that the only maintenance you should need is maybe a hot oil treatment once a week/every other week. Lord knows our hair type benefits from it.

spraying sea salt on hair to help it tangle??

Dreading Methods

I would use hot hot water when you add the salt, helps it dissolve alot better. Not letting it disolve properly or adding to much left me with not only dandruff on my initial attempt to dread but little bits of salt all up in my nappiness, it was bad.
