I have lice...

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Thanks, SE. Will do!

neem mix a lil with your shampoo or baking soda
the alcohol try to go for closer to 30 min altho 15 is hard enough to handle

the neem oil hardens and thickens so b4 u use it fill a sink with hot water and stick the bottle in there so it heats up and luiguifies

the alcohol do at least every 3 days for atleast 9 days
wash all sheets anhd clothes

and the bugs will fall out u wont need to worry bout em in the dreads they only stay within 1/4 inch of the scalp in undreaded hair anyway

in betweeh treatments ap;plying teatree directly to the scalp can prevent biting a couple hours and keep u sane

if u cover the scal-p in teatree they wont bite till it wears ogff mostly
oh in between washes u can do that with neem too
neems got a string earthy smell some ppl say stinls its not a pleasant flowery smell but i wouldnt say it stinkes really just not pleasant

I have lice...

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I used the method where you pour the Alcohol for 15 min and then vinegar for 10... I hope it works...Anyway, I am terrified. It's been a week and its been itchiiiin. I asked my mom to look for lice, and she didnt find any. I scratched my head last night and one came out under my fingernail. :(My mom is going to get some neem oil today...so how do I go about using it?She doesn't understand my connection to my hair and says I might have to cut them off even if all the lice die! she says something about the exoskeleton needing to be brushed out. I dont care if theyre there as long as theyre not feeding off my scalp. :/

New Washing Routine?

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

So, I usually use THIS recipe for me dreads that Soaringeagle the great gave me. I have dandruff prollems. yargh.:)"in a gallon pitcher mix:a good squirt of bronnerssome baking soda (3-5 tablespoons)5-10 drops teatree oil10-30 drops rosemary oildump over head lather up (wet hair with cool not hot water)rinse with freeeeeeezing cold water"I use that evvvvery Sunday, so my hair is sofresh and socleanclean for the coming week. But, lately, my head has been real itchy for some reason. I think maybe I should be washing more often? I just don't know where to start. :)With me in me kitchen I have: Lavender Dr. Bronners (I will invest in Tea Tree soon), bakin soda (that huge awesome bag from Costco), tea tree oil, sweet orange oil, and lavender oil.My mom obviously loves lavender. Not me so much, but its what we have. :|THANK YOU!

Weird Alien Looking Dreads?

Life Issues Facing Dreads

So, I realized since I "got" dreads, I've been noticing some 'dreadlocked friends' at school more often.Usually, the only people that had dreads were soccer players and black people (no racism intended haha). The first person I saw was this girl who always brings her guitar with her to school. She always plays it on the bus, she's really bad, and she just brings it to show off. KIIIINDA annoying. :/Anyway, at first I guess I didnt realize them, but after I week I thought to myself... "HAH! Oh my gosh... What is that?"They looked like it was one piece of hair from one dread wrapped around the rest. They are insanely thin. It was definitely not neglect, backcombed, crocheted or twist and ripped. Its thuroughly confusing. I feel like I should reach out, but she doesnt look friendly. I think she went into it with no idea and I'm really sure I see clumps of wax jutting out sometimes. She's totally reached a plateau, too. I feel kinda bad that she's had her same clumpy wrappy ones for longer then I and mine are already "dreadin' up".Then, today at school, I saw this senior (in h.s... not old person) with the same deal! Same thin, nasty, weird alien dreads then the girl on my bus... He also had rubber bands SUPER tight to his scalp, to the point where it looked like dread spikes. xPAnyway, does anyone recognize this method? I would like to have some understanding of what the hell is goin on at my school!

The "Wrongdoings" of My Anti-Hippie "Friends"

Alternative Lifestyles and Subcultures

I came across a link that one of my somewhat friends posted on facebook. I know you can really post anything you have on your mind but this went a little far for my taste. She posted this video: and then said, in exact "words": "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !! WTF LOL LMAO!"and this is how the conversation went:Irene: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!Gabriel: WTFhahahahahahahahahha"And tell them that we love them, i just want you to know that trees..THAT We CARE"Jenna (me): omg.. poor trees. :/ shame on you, Irene, for making fun of these people. At least they care about the future of trees.Irene: Uhm these ppl drove cars there and sit on chairs. They don't care about trees lol.Me: All I'm saying is that I would be right there with them and laughing at their passion is wrong. :/Tomi: That's not their passion, it's a bunch of confused people thinking mankind just goes off killing trees like some evil monster. They just want something to believe in.Me: Like all christians... Yet, that's the popular belief, something rediculous and unbelieveable.Tomi: Nah actually the bible says to tell people to rule the earth, benevolently. The bible actually is against all this green hippy stuff. Just so you know, I don't read the bible I just happen to have stumbled upon that fact.Me: The world today is an ignorant, corrupt place. I don't want to argue. I just don't think it's okay to post and laugh at these grieving people. It's one thing to personally watch these videos and laugh in private, but when you link it for all of your friends to see, including myself (who actually gives a shit about people's feelings and the earth), I will present my opinions about it.Should I have kept my opinions to myself? It was insulting how they acted against them. I know I shouldn't have taken it personal, but I really can't stand ignorant people. :/

Dreading Methods

I hadn't ripped any of the back dreads and there was just a huge congo in the back. I had also started them out of an act of rebellion at my parents, even though I wanted them anyway.

Dreading Methods

Well, I would use the neglect method, but it can be painful (the ripping) and I have school. I'm a sophomore and even though I dont care what people think, It would still be best to have the process speedy a bit. :) It worked last time. No rubber bands. promise. soaringeagle said:

Dreading Methods

Okay, so after about 6 months, I decided to restart my dreads.. Why? Well, I feel as I didnt know enough, so me and my mom took 9 hours out of a saturday to take them out.Well, I'm backcombing saturday and then more sunday. I was just wondering if i should use bands. I want them to be kinda bigger than last time? How much hair should I use in one dread? Like, sectionwise. I probably wont use the rubber bands. My friends need to measure though. Theyre kinda simple minded, so how should I explain this to them?

Combining and partial congos?

General Questions

okay, so some of my dreads (maybe half or more) are a little thin. They're okay looking, but I would like to maye combine some of them. How would I go about doing that? Also I have 2 dreads that are knotted 3 inches from my scalp but are two seperates. One has a hemp dreadwrap on it. Ripping doesnt work. Combine those?
