2 months Natural / Neglect Asian Hair living by the beach

Introduce Yourself

A tip about oils (seeing how the other bases have been covered) try to avoid essential oils that are for aromatherapy purposes... they are very concentrated. They are usually cheaper though, and if u must go that route, make sure to dilute it very well - for instance thyme oil --when concentrated enough -- is used as embalming fluid because it eats away dead skin and whatnot. Not to scare you or anything, just be aware. Check out some of the other discussions about essential oils. Happy locking!

Dreads and human adaptation

History and Religious Significance

As the human race migrated into the Northern Hemisphere, minor adaptive changes had to take place. Skin tone became lighter to absorb more of the sparse sunlight, and hair became straighter. Why? I speculate that this was for several reasons. In the Southern Hemisphere, sunlight and heat are more abundant than in the North. Curlier locks have more surface area in the knots and retain much more water. This allows more water to evaporate UP to the scalp and cool the brain. In the North, this is disadvantageous, because more water means more mold. Straighter knots retain less, which is good if there is less heat and sunlight. The blunted tips of African hair reflect this, and the 'speared' tips of European and Asian hairtypes reflect the need to drain off excess water. The picture below shows both, spear tips and blunt ends. Bob Marley's father was Scottish, and his mother was of African descent.Point is, be happy with what you have on your head, it shows the kind of place your ancestors come from!

Stubborn dandruff

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

Ok, I am about 10 or 11 months in now, and my hair is doing good except for occasional oiliness and dandruff. Here's what ive been doing lately:I wash with the BS vinegar method described on here, but I use only a tsp or tsp and a half BS to about 3/4 gallon water. I stopped using the ACV because it made my hair kinda sticky. however, i started using dr.b again cuz of oiliness. I've heard of sage and herbs like that, but i don't know a good combo of herbs to make a tea to tackle *both oiliness and dandruff. Any suggestions?

Baby dreads.. should I switch shampoos?!

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I pour it on my head, but if your hair is longer you could dip it in too. But, you want to be sure to soak down your scalp especially. The scalp needs cleaning more than the hair does... from what I understand

more problems with employer ughh.....

General Talk

See if you wear a tam or a tie-dye bandana while around your employer, they *shouldn't be able to be like "hey, take of that bandana so I can inspect your hair for knots". I think if you wrap it on the job they can't make you cut em. Its kinda like if u go to work with your genitals exposed, they cant tell you to remove them, but they sure can tell you to cover it up. Hope that makes sense ;P ideally tho, I would personally prefer to not give any employer my time and sweat if they are going to attempt to tell me how to look. good luck!
