dry brittle dreads

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

I started using a tea spoon of white vinegar mixed in with eight ounces of water.to give my dreadlocks a decent conditioning when they got to dry. I also stopped adding a little bit of salt to the baking soda mix I use to clean my hair.

Loose haiRs

Dread Maintenance

The best thing to do is not worry about them.

As long as your hair continues to go through its normal hair growth/shedding cycle you will always have some loose hair.

Seriously, the only maintenance you need to do for, your hair type, is keep your hair clean, condition when needed and pull your dreadlocks away from each other.

By the looks of things it seems as if you have a some matted sections already.

hey josh .. http://www.dreadlockssite.com/group/extracleandreadsbakingsodawashf... .. this will help.. it's the least disruptive method because you simply pour the BS over your head and let it soak .. and the same with the ACV... pour it over your head and drench your dreads and let them soak .. and rinse again :)

also, here's a thread that will give you second thought before you use any of those other products :D

The only maintenance dreadlocks need are:1. Wash your hair on a regular basis. Most wash there hair two or three times a week or are working on getting to the point of washing two or three times a week. I personally wash my hair with a mixture of baking soda, water, and five to ten drops of peppermint oil, tea tree oil, and/or eucalyptus oil.2. (Optional) Pulled away from each otherWho ever told you to not wash your may have given you bad information or just wants you to go back to him/her for repeat business. If you absolutely have to tame "Frizziness" for special occasions use 100% Aloe Vera.

My salon experience...

Dread Products

"Fragrance" could be the only reason the product has the words "Mango and Lime" in it.

funny how there's no mango or lime listed anywhere! It's personal preference though. I wouldn't put it in my hair the ingredients look sketchy but some people don't mind.

good for you for not falling into that salon owners trap! I'm glad you stood your ground and in a few months your dreads will be glad too! Many Blessings

A single conditioning treatment will help, just don't over do it.Just keep doing what you have been doing. In the end your hair will continue to grow and your dreadlocks will be fine.

Washing Schedule

General Questions

If towel drying is what you want to do, go for it. Get yourself a shammy to dry your hair with instead of a standard towel. There is going to be a point in time where you may have to air dry your dreadlocks a little bit, however a shammy will do for now.
Wikipedia: Chamois Leather AKA: Shammy towel"
*For the sake of information: A "Shamwow" is a shammy. The towels swimmers and divers use are shammies and you can find them at local auto part stores. Rey Matsuzaki said:

Oh and HOW DO I DRY IT??? I heard that patting my hair with a towel works, and then letting it airdry. BUt that makes my hair look a bit oily so I would like to towel dry it completely and if you know a way to towel dry it without taking the knots out that would be wonderful
