Discouraged :/

Introduce Yourself

Starting dreadlocks is seriously easy.

Step one: Toss the brushes and conditioners
Step two: Keep your hair clean on a regular basis.
Step three: (Extremely Optional) Pull the sections away from each other at least once a week.
Seriously just go for it.

I know I think its just because I am actually getting ready to do it. Kinda like last minute nerves or jitters.

Discouraged :/

Introduce Yourself

Most of what I could say has already been said by other people so here is all I can add to the thread.

The sooner you stop caring about what other people think about you the sooner you feel better about yourself and the sooner the negativity stops affecting you.

Your thoughts of yourself is what matters. If you want to head dreadlocks, go for it.

:( why isnt my hair locking?

Introduce Yourself

Seriously, dreadlocks don't form overnight. Your hair will form sections first and then the sections will begin to look like dreadlocks.

You are two weeks into allowing your hair to form dreadlocks. Be patient with yourself.

Thin/skinny dreadlocks! Help!

General Questions

They will fill out more as your hair continues to go through it's normal growth/shedding cycle. The scalp showing will go away also as the sections become looser.

Dreading Methods

Your dreadlocks have a good start. As long as you are willing to expect constant change your dreadlocks will do well without you really needing to do anything.

starting out

Introduce Yourself

Regardless of how you start your dreadlocks, they will continue to mature with time as your hair continues to go through its normal growth/shedding cycle. In the end you have to be patient with yourself.

New girl here.11 months-ish. Need some advice.

Dread Maintenance

You have dreadlocks. As Owen stated everyone's hair turns into mature dreadlocks at different lengths of time. The thing you may need to remember is the fact that a dreadlock is section of hair that is matted and knotted.

Introduce Yourself

1. Mix together some salt water and put the salt water into a cheap spray bottle that you won't mind if it gets clogged.2. Spray the salt water onto your hair and let it sit for a hour or two3. Rinse your hair out.4. Repeat 1-3 at least once or twice a week until your hair starts to lock.5. Moisturize your hair when you think your hair needs it. (Using a salt water spray is known make hair too dry, if used too often)6. Go outside and enjoy the wind. The salt water will give your hair a courser texture.
