When to trim

General Talk

If I still had my three dreads than probably about the middle of my back was where I probably would have kept them.

Brand New/DreadMe up

Introduce Yourself

Hey Lexi, natural is always the best route to go.All you need to do is just keep your hair clean, and not mess with it.It's good that you read Dreaducation, as most people who ask questions don't and than we're forced to feed the same information over and over again.I used the backcomb method, which I don't recommend. It caused me a good month of constantly worrying about my dreads and being obsessive over them since they started coming loose, and started actually dreading.Tear and Rip is the next best thing to Natural.I'm a thin white boy, with wavy hair and if I let my hair go untouched for about two weeks I can see the formation of dreads happening. So, in a nutshell, my advice is keep your hair clean with non-residue shampoos, and just go natural. You'll have gorgeous dreads before you know it, I'm sure.

Dreading Methods

No, you should wash your hair.Everyone on this website washes their dreads, it's a misconception that they don't.Most of them use natural soap though because it doesn't have any residue in it, which most commercial shampoo does. Dane McMillen said:
Cool, so basically just not wash it? I use to have really long hair about 14 inches. At this time in life I had a substance abuse problem and didn't wash my hair for 2 months. I remember parts of it started to dread and I would twist them and palm roll sometimes but they always just fell out.

I'd remove it if I was you for sure.
You'll end up with nasty hair if you leave the wax in it.
Especially if you used a lot.
If you want your dreads to look, and feel good and last, there's no better route than natural.
As long as you just let your hair do what it wants after you get the wax out, it'll dread.

You can remove the wax from your dreads usually!try this link http://www.dreadlockssite.com/page/dread-wax-removal-is-finally#axzz0xsgaMGep and with backcombing, it seems like they come out but just don't touch them or bother them and let them do there thing and they'll dread up.When you backcomb, they look worse before they look better.Salt water is also really good for dreads, it helps the process a lot.=)

Dread Maintenance

Hey, it's been a while!I'm not sure if any of you guys remember me but probably around December/January I started my dreading adventure.I had three Dreadtails, for those of you who don't know what that means it's just a dreaded rat tail!Well, I no longer have them, and that's a personal decision and all that but!I just wanted to say thank you to this website. Thanks to this website my dreads were amazing, while they were there, and I loved them. If it wasn't for this site I would have probably used wax and messed with my dreads a lot and just gave up on them but thanks to all the love and support that you guys all gave me I kept them going and they were amazing.I just want you guys to know this website does make a difference, I'm sure you know that though, and that I didn't have my dreads long but what information I did gather other the course I will continue to use to help people on this website and it my personal life.I guess I just wanted to give you guys an updateish thing, and let you know that this website is amazing, and it does help people avoid all the lies and money scams, and that I'm always going to be here to help when I can! Thanks!

Ut oh, I already used wax what should I do?

Dread Products

I'd say just a shit ton of conditioner and a brush, you're going to lose hair, regardless. If you brush it out, you'll lose hair, and if you cut it you do.You'll lose less with the conditioner and brush.I wouldn't recommend dish soap but, than again I don't know much about dish soap and Dreads but, it just doesn't sound to healthy for your hair.

All hair dreads naturally over time my friend. =)Even the finest and straightest. To dread your hair naturally without any products is easy, don't do anything.Don't touch your hair, or brush it or anything. You should use a natural soap when you wash your hair though, it's better for your future dreads because there is no residue.A good majority of people, myself included, love Dr.Bronners natural soaps.=)You can get it at any natural store, or Target, I'm pretty sure. But yeah, don't do anything to your hair.No sectioning, or palm rolling.Just wake up and go, never brush it and after a while it'll start to dread! Here's the website for the soap http://www.drbronner.com/
