Naturally occurring dreadlocks a concept difficult to grasp

General Talk

I think black people get irritated with me cause I don't spend half of every one of my paychecks to go to a salon and get my hair "fixed."

.nice of him to save u the bother of having to talk to him Denney

unfortunately the world is full of dumbasses.

one thing about honesty is that some idiots are scared of it and so do not bother entering your life - which is nice

Naturally occurring dreadlocks a concept difficult to grasp

General Talk

A black dude I work with told me once that white people can't have dreadlocks. He said they just have oily tangles. Right after he made this statement a black chick that was eaves dropping on the conversation said "Then how come this white guy right here has nicer dreadlocks than yours?" He hasn't spoken to me in 2 years.

I started with about 57. I've let quite a few of the thinner ones turn into congos but you get the idea.

soo i want my dreads soo..answer ma questions, please?

General Questions

I think if your asking questions about getting dreads out, then your not ready for dreads yet. It sounds to me like your thinking too much in general. And no one has all round perfect locks. They may look perfect in their pics but trust me their not.

Are all Knotty Boy and DreadHead products bad for dreads?

Introduce Yourself

I used the DHHQ shampoo for the first 6 months or so and still keep a bottle on hand just in case. After the first year I started using BS/ACV rinses.

how often do you wash your locks?

Dread Maintenance

I try to wash mine every 2 weeks but once and a while I can't get to it until 3 weeks. I believe it's all in what you are used to. Even before I had dreads I only used shampoo about once a month. I usually wash my hair on Monday early in the morning cause it takes 8 to 10 hours for it to dry.

when will this phase end?

Dread Maintenance

I truly believe you really need to forget that you have hair at all in the first year. Keep it clean and pull apart the congos you don't want. People ask me all the time "You must have to put so much work into your dreads to be white and have nice ones?" I always laugh alittle and say "no." All you need is time and patience.

How often and how do u wash your head ?

Dread Maintenance

I try to clean my dreads once a week, usually saturday. Sometimes I have to go 2 or even 3 weeks though. Even before I had dreads I only washed it every 3 or 4 weeks. I did rinse it out with clean water every couple of days though. I wear bandanna and don't have greasy or dry skin so it's just about getting wet once and a while.

My one month update! Loose hair is driving me nuts

Dread Maintenance

Your always going to have loose hair. Just get used to it. Soaringeagle gave me the best advice right after I started my dreads and was worried about loose hairs, and if they were locking, and loops, and on and on. He said "just forget that you have hair." After a couple of months you will have to start separating congos, if you want to. Until then put on a knit hat or tie a bandanna on your head and just forget about it.

2strand twist

Introduce Yourself

The first time I started dreads I had the 2 strand twist or plat done. It didn't work. She told me I had to put gel on each twist every day and sit under a dryer. Oh, and I couldn't get my hair wet for at least a month. That shit stunk, literally smelled like shit. Don't waste your time.
