Nautral Dreadlocks???

Dreading Methods

i can thankfully say I haven't made any really regrettable mistakes. I backcombed in my first like maybe 3 or 4 dreads but it was way too much effort/time/pain.Now i'll backcomb a tiny bit everynow n then to jumpstart knots/mats, but only for like 10 minutes to creat a little baby-knot. from theres it all natural babehhh wouldnt want em any other way.

mats/dreads at the root?

General Questions

You don't think my dreads are too young to use olive oil without slowing/reversing the dreading process?I tried to take a picture but you cant even make em out. Picture like a gnarly little mat/knot-ball attached to the base of a dread, without any tips or anything. They're so knotted into the dread though and so close to the scalp I'm worried that ripping at them too hard will damage the actual dread and/or rip out mad roots.I don't have any aversion to letting my dreads congo, but I don't want to end up with a hair-tumor growing out of some. But I don't want to cause any damage only in the name of visual appeal... Maybe I'll try working the knots into the dread itself by rolling it or even using a bead or wrap.....?

12/2/09I started dreading my sh*t back in june, so they're about six months old at this point. The "underneath" hair on the sides n back of my head is dreading more slowly, but its starting to get there. I've still got a lot of loose hairs everywhere, but those should (I hope) get pulled in.

looking for some pointers on starting growing dreads and starting my journey.

General Questions

I've been using neutrogena (sp?) bar soap, its like clear-amberish yellow coloured. I think its actually face wash but I'm pretty sure it doesnt leave any residue, and it def. does the job. Plus it was on sale for like 24 cents a bar at Target a few months ago so I stocked the f*uck up.

mats/dreads at the root?

General Questions

I was ripping my hair apart last night n I noticed something: I'm getting mats/round dread things at the bottoms of some of my dreads, like at the root. Mostly on the back of my head, I think it must be from sleeping/laying on them and maybe always wearing a wool hat? anyway I tried to like seperate them or something, I managed to pull off a couple smaller, weaker ones. but a few are so dense and matted they don't even want to budge at all no matter how hard I pull. I'm trying to be kinda careful though because I dont want to end up damaging my roots or 1/2 ripping out a lock completely.Any suggestions...? should I just leave em where they are? I just don't want to end up with some extra-gnar dread-balls growing out the back of my head.

whats poppin doc?

Introduce Yourself

I tried not using the lemon for a month or two after I first started, and I have to say that my hair is much better off with it. the new green tea+clementine+salt mix is working really well though, maybe the lemon juice was too acidic?I'm really happy with the results so far though... when I decided to get dreads I didn't want to use any wax/commercial products or have anyone else help me, but I still expected I'd have bangin lookin dreaddies within a month or two. Patience is a virtue though... and now everything is sort of starting to come together :P my main problem now are all the loose hairs between dreads, but I know they'll get pulled in eventually or dread themselves.

Introduce Yourself

Started dreading my hair in like uhhhhh maybe mid june... its starting to get there :P theres like 6 or 7 dreads towards the back that are locked up really well, everything else is still a uhhhhh.... work in progress? Haven't put anything in there besides lemon juice and seal salt (preferably ocean water :). last few days I've been using a new "brew": reallllllllly dark green tea+clementine juice+sea salt. used clementine because I didn't have any extra lemons, doesnt seem to have done any harm :P
