Downside to dreads? Keeping it real!

Introduce Yourself

Pros

My dreads seem to be a conversation starter, where ever I go. People are constantly telling me they look awesome, or how did you start them or why? Sometimes I feel like a alien walking into a western bar, and it feels like everyones eyes are on me.

They keep me warm in the winter, they are my pillow when I have no pillow.

Sometimes if forget my sunglass's, and im walking or driving, depending on if the sun is on the side of me I can let my dreads hang down and block it out.

They are like a timeline of the last 4-5 years i have lived

Cons

sometimes girls where I live think that dreads are gross- misconception

Baseball caps dont fit on my head.

hey,, anybody going to philly folk fest?

General Questions

I might be, I have never been to philly folk fest its in shwanksville. The only person I know on the bill is Arlo Guthrie, and it usually rains. Shitty thing is you park your car and have to carry everything you need instead of camping next to your car.

I was also wondering a few of my dreads at the end get skinny and have these mats of hair at the end should i snip this ends off so i have whispy ends so that the dread can dry better/

Yeah I think your right SE, a haircut really isn't going to change anything, So I'm gonna keep them growing why stop at 3 years.

Sometimes I think about these girls and one night stands, sometimes I think girls are just affraid to take me home to meet their parents.

If somone wants to be part of your life they will make an effort to be in it. Don't bother reserving a place in your heart for somone who doesnt make an effort to stay.

General Talk

Well its been 4 years since I've had a haircut, and I've been natural dreading them for 3 years. I love my dreadlocks, I mean love them.I feel like every girl I meet just likes me for my image and after a night it's like good bye that was fun. Some times I feel really alienated by my society. It's just like people judge you before they know you, around here that means people think your a low life. I'm 27 years old and play in 2 different bands, and I'm not gonna lie, it gets really fucking hot. This week is especially hot here in 100s. I feel like if I cut my dreads I'll just be like the average looking plain joe. I do like the fact that my dreads help me meet alot of cool open minded people. I don't know I said before im gonna be 27 and maybe I'm having some mid life crisis/ mental break down with all the bullshit happening around me. I dunno what to do but I guess I'll just wait and when im ready to cut i will. sometimes change is good and i think if i cut i would probly start another set with thinner dreads and less congos

Why is it so difficult?

Dreadlocks Journey Emotional Support

Why does she have to have dreadlocks? I find other dreadie girls here nice but usually they re to wild to be in a commited relationship, actually i find this with alot of girls. Your young and I've notice that sometimes I don't even have to go outta my way to meet girls they just come up and say I love your fucking dreads. Perfect opener, and then its like well thank you, Me: you look really pretty and stare into their eyes and then I go out for a smoke and they follow me all night. Dreadlocks are like a welcome mat for girls,

In the winter once or twice every week or 2. In the summer about 2-3 times a week.

Wuts gwaannn wit ya?!

Introduce Yourself

actually theirs alot of people on this site that have backcombed, twist and rip and natural dreads. I think the number one thing that people here preach about is not to use wax. You might be happy with your dreads now but see dreadlocks need to move and wax acts like a glue so that your hair doesnt move. Movement= knots = dreads. Not only that but it does trap all types of dirt and can cause mold or mildew which can make you sick. petroluem is also the main chemical in wax. its like vasoline
