lice a dreadlocks worse nightmare

Dread Maintenance

haha i want to teach in a inner city school just because of that purpose.. i feel the children need you more cause a lot of their parents dont care. dreadilocks said:
When I had my kid in the inner city schools it was always a problem, Parent don't care about their kids and send them to school in the same uniform day after day. They aren't going to spend the money to clean it up. Right after i cut my dreads I switched them to a suburban school.. never a problem since. Well my son did get them from batting helmets but not from the school.

Good luck with teaching. IDK if you'll be more at risk being a teacher. If you stay safe during lice times like wearing nice scarves and such. The school nurse at the school that had the lice problem said she even got them one year they were so bad. She was a black lady and they never get them unless it's an infestation. That particular school was. My kid only stayed there two and a half months and I got her outta that mess :)

This idea scares me so much! About kids in school and having lice. Not fun at all! I hope I'm one of those lucky teachers.

One time i hung out with my friend and she has two kids and we were just playing and stuff and then like 10 minutes later she tells me one of her kids had lice the night before!! I was freaking out haha for like a week i thought i had it cause thinkin about it so much made my head super itchy. I made people check like 10 times. I know a friend that had dreads and had lice i will talk with him and get back to you to see what he did cause he still kept his.

making 2 into 1

Dreading Methods

I have so many that are coming together more, there are 4 smaller ones that are combining to become bigger. I was feeling around yesterday and noticed there were a few groups combining, they are kinda just doin their thing i have enough to let them do that without seeming like i have one giant dreadlock so im gonna just let some of them go and see what happens from there, once they get too dreaded together its pretty painful to rip them apart anyway haha. Just let them do their thing and they will grow together on their own.

growing dreads in a hat or a bandana???????????

Dread Maintenance

You probably don't want to smother them. But wearing a hat out especially during winter is great. I notice that if i wear my hair up all day or if i wear a hat all day and then take it off later on my hair is so matted together and some of the dreads actually dreaded together more, so it is nice but i definitely wouldn't recommend it all the time for months. Also when i wear a hat around the apartment or something i will sometimes rub it against my scalp i think it helps with the lose hairs and it also itches your head and feels great haha

Dreadlock ROOTS question

Dread Maintenance

All this fighting is making me think differently of this site in general. I think the fighting is going no where and needs to stop. All you can do is give your own advice and let the person chose for themselves. I think the point is clearly made that neglect is the only true natural way to go, and anyone that knows anything about dreads would know this, so just leave it at that. Jeeze! Where is the loooove?

how much time do you spend working on and maintaining your dreads?

Dread Maintenance

I didn't do much maintenance in the beginning, my brother actually touched them more than i did haha. I did palm roll them once in a while at the ends but soon after i realized that accomplished nothing i stopped and just let it all go. Now i just wash it a few times a week and sometimes rip them apart if too many are dreading together. But that tends to hurt so i try not to do that either. When i was younger in the beginning years i used to dye them, which i totally regret. Dying your hair in general is terrible let alone dying dreadlocks. I strongly don't recommend this! The last 5 years or so i completely just let them go and i could not be happier with how much healthier they look. You can tell the areas i dyed from the areas that are healthy grown hair. I have a few different colors (blonde and different shades of brown) from past dying. Also when i was about 14 when i first started, my brother had this genius idea to put honey in my hair haha BAD IDEA! I knew it seemed like a bad idea but I listened and did it anyway and for about an hour i was sticking to everything! Finally i realized what a dumb idea that was and washed it out. That was the one and only thing I've ever used in my hair. After that experience i never tried anything again haha Now all i use is shampoo, I've never tried any baking soda or any other concoctions that i hear about on here. The shampoo i use now is head and shoulders, never seem to have a problem. I wash it well enough and get the soap out and dry with a hair dryer. I was thinking about trying something new but don't feel like putting the mixture together. If anyone would like to make me the mixture and come wash my hair their welcome! hahaOh yeah and I'm going to be a teacher and surrounded by lil kids who may or may not have lice, this scares me a bit!

not fully dreaded...

Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Aw i love your three locks:) I think they look great and once they become longer will be even sweeter! I think its pretty unique, from the front you could never tell and then you turn your head and bam, three sweetass dreads! Jcisazombie said:
Well, I have dreads in the back of my head, not all over my head and I'm sure many people think it's gross or weird or whatever but, I just wanted it done. I do body modifications so I can add things I feel are missing from my body, like, I feel like adding holes and tattoos to my body completes me and places my soul and my ideas on my flesh, which I believe it's supposed to be. So, when I decided to dread three dreads in the back of my head, I felt like it was completing something because, and I'm sure all of you know this, dreads are not like any other haircut. They mean a lot to the individual, and they tell a story in a lot of cases. I don't see what it matters if a person has three dreads, or one thousand dreads, I'm sure the three mean as much to the person as the one thousand do to the other, and everyone should be accepting of others opinions and ideas, instead of making dreads a club where there's a minimum number of dreads you must have to be accepted. People do things for different reasons, for me it was for myself and completing who I want to be in my life. I don't look at a person who has 40 dreads any differently than someone who has 100 and I don't look at anyone who has one dread any differently from someone who has twelve. It's just a journey that they want to go on in a way that makes them feel complete and I think we should all be accepting of that. After all, dreadheads get a lot of shit, regardless of the number of dreads they get. Why would they want to become part of the people giving others shit? Btw, I didn't get offended by your post. =)
