Thanks for spamming DreadlockForums.com

General Talk

I just think that we should all just stay on this site. It's not about what site we are on but who is on the site.

Wow. I joined dreadlockforums.com a long time ago and I never posted anything because the site was not very good. I much prefer this site over dreadlockforums and HF. This site is far superior in organization and love/respect. Dreadlockforums will never have what we have here.

Getting frustrated

General Talk

I felt the exact same way. I had my dreads backcombed and it all fell out except about an inch or less at the root. It looked like a bunch of pony tails on my head. It was horrible and i seriously considered starting over or just giving up. I am so glad I didn't. I don't recommend this because most people on here don't agree but this is what I did to transform my dreads from ponytails to legitimate dreads. Ok here it goes: I had all the dreads redreaded via backcombing gently. Then I blunted the tips by pulling the end of the dread through the middle of the dread. Finally, I rubberbanded the ends about a centimeter up the dread. At first it looks kinda strange and it is really poofy but after a few weeks you dont even notice them anymore. I had done everything I just said once before but without the rubberbands and it all fell out. Once I put the bands on the ends it locked up within a month and I am happy to say that I a band free and locksteady. Regardless if you wish to do something like this or not, don't give up. However, if you are this frustrated now you might want to do the same thing I did because it worked wonders. If you don't agree with this method I completely understand. Either way I hope it all works out for you. Also, if you do use the rubberbands I wouldnt recommend leaving them in any longer than you have to. After about a month or month and a half I cut one of the bands off and made sure the dread didn't fall apart. After a few days the dread was still locked so I took all the bands out.

What's the weirdest question you've been asked towards your dreads?

General Talk

About a month ago I was at the gas station pumpin gas and an older lady walked up tome and asked where I got my hat. I was wearing my tam and I told her that I made it myself which I did. She asked if she could feel it and I said "um... Ok" I didn't want to be rude. So she asks, "So do u have long hair under there?" I replied with,"I have dreadlocks." she immediately removed her hand from my head, made a disgusted look like I was some sort of an alien or something. Haha then she walked away without saying anything more. And she walked away really fast like I was chasin her. I could not stop laughin when I thought about it later. Anyways, it's more of a reaction than a question but I thought it was worth sharing.

Prospective Dreadhead Reporting In...

Introduce Yourself

Hey that Dude without dreads, LOlIt's always nice to see a prospect in the works. When I got dreadlocks it was a decision that came true almost overnight. I decided that I wanted them after going to the jazzfest in new orleans and the spirit of the suwannee fest in florida where i currently live just north of there. I never realized how much time and maintenance dreads would be. However, I do believe that through this experience and the last 5 and half months I have not only grown physically and numerically but also spiritually and mentally. I have looked deeper into my true being and realized that it doesnt matter wat people think of you but wat u think of urself. I think of it as a metaphorically lifestyle. As I myself grow and get more mature, my dreadlocks grow and mature. In a similar fashion, as I go through rough patches in life, so do my dreads and both come out okay in the end. Patience is a virtue and I never understood that until embarking on this journey. It truly was, for me, a life altering experience. For some it is a hairstyle but for me it was a lifestyle. I love my dreads now and I take the criticism with a grain of salt. Being a part of several dreadlock forums in the past I can speak from experience in saying that this forum is by far the most open and easy going. Once again I am glad to see a new face amongst us dreadheads, if you will, and spread the word. I hope these words have encouraged you to embark on your dread journey.Peace, Love, and Dreads,Jacob

Well i appreciate the input but when i said amazing dreads i meant that they were really nice. They arent perfect but they are just nice and down his back and I just dont see to many people wit dreads around here. Anyways, I'm just getting it a lil bit more tidy like I said. He wont be using crochet or wax or anything. I dont really want to do it but I kinda have to to go to these interviews. soaringeagle said:
well u said he had awesome dreads that are 2 1/2 years old.. overworking them to acheive a "perfect dreads" look can very oftem mean they dont last long at all
looking awesome and being healthy happy dreads are not the same thying..so just be aware they yje more ya do the sooner they may be cut
its understandable that yas want a lil tidy up before seeing the deans but just keep all things in ballance, do as lil harm as u can and still be presentable

btw by what standards do you rate "awesome dreads"
perfectly round no bumps no kinks perfect blunt ends no loose hairs at the roots..etc etc?

you might as well move to holywood find a good plastic sugeon and buy into that whole "ideal beauty" crap
with dreads the standard for "awesome dreads" shouldnt be a fake idea of how perfect dreads should look, but instead be how they hold up against the goal of keeping them a liftime
