Dreads need my oomph! ;)

Dread Products

Thanks for all the input SE. :) Yeah, the shampoo bar is called Seanik. It has sea salt and seaweed so it should be the effect of swimming in the ocean. :) I just used it but my hair is wrapped in a towl so we'll see. :) That sucks that the big hair look is cause by damaging cos I fell in love with that look ages ago but dont want to hurt my hair to acheive it. Maybe in time I'll find a healthier alternative. I got into Lush because I want to get into make soap some day. Specifically for healthy locks of diff types. My locks are 4 and a half years old and quite mature and everytime I see a newbie with their fluffy new locks it make me miss mine when they were babies.

Dreads need my oomph! ;)

Dread Products

Are you sure? Cos I just picked up a shampoo bar at work (Lush) and it contains sea salt in it which I read is supposed to add volume to the hair. My hair type has always been more on the flat side so I wanted to find a solution for me and others that have this problem. I don't believe that there isn't a solution. There has to be.

Dreads need my oomph! ;)

Dread Products

I dont use any products on my hair except for shampoo bars. mostly maylees and lush. i should have elaborated more on the "products" word. what i mean is shampoo bars with certain ingredients thatll volumize my hair. its not weighed down from buildup cos theres nothing in my hair to do so. Or maybe even a concotion/rinse I could make that will vloumize and give my hair more body. They create shampoos like this for normal hair so I thought, Well, why not Locks?? If there isn't anything currently, I intend to make one so I need to know what ingredients will do this. :)

Adding more Dreads to existing dreads

General Questions

I'm dissapointed that this wasn't anwsered. :( My ex fiance/best friend recently cut his locks and is moving away and gave me one of his locks to remember me by and I don't want to use it as an extension because it's very long. I wanted to add it to my locks so he's always with me. Anyone know how?

Yeah. That's why I'm kinda worried. They are a bit heavy though. So If I could lighten them up I think it would put less stress on my scalp and wouldn't look so horrifying?I hope. In time, when the new untouched dread growth gets very long, couldnt i cut of the maintained stuff and be ok? or does it not work that way? thats something i could never understand.

wow thats after 2 years no maintenance? thats surprising i woulda thought theyd fill in long ago

haha. Yeah, I'm sure they're here to stay. :) And I think you're right about the crocehette density. I'm hoping when the years go on with more growth, it'll sort itself out cos the new growth will be untouched. I think I'm definatly due for a conditioning. I miss the softness. :/

Heather said:
i think they're dense because of the crocheting. you could definitely do a conditioning with probably whatever you want to use. at 4 years you don't really need to worry about anything coming apart. i tried to loosen one of my sections with conditioner the other day and it wasn't going anywhere. mine are only 6 months. its really soft now though. lol:)

Well SE, I put down the crochette 2 years ago. Any advice with that? Wouldn't the new growth be all I need to heal it? Is this a time process? For the past 2 years, all I have been doing is washing and seperating, the first 2 was unnessisary maitenance. Thanks for the input. :)

soaringeagle said:

looks to me like its from the crochet still give it 3 months and see what happens let the gaps fill in with loose hair from seperating

Thin overall being a bad thing? My hair type is very fine and like baby thin hair. As for root damage, I don't recall crochetting the roots at all but only loose hairs surrounding put back in the nearest dread. I didn't do it that many times but I never touched my roots cos I wa never a fan of people that tried to tighten them because it looks bad. I was hpong all the new hair that grows in will repair everything because it is untouched. Should that work? I have been doing no maitenece for two years. I'm hoping it's just a slow repair process. Thanks for your advice. :) Sometimes I do the part in diff places as well.

Might be the picture.... but your locks look really thin overall. I agree with Heather that the lack of fuzzy roots makes the sections look more defined. Maybe when you were crocheting you did some permanent damage to the roots... if you even crocheted the roots. That's not helpful, though :/ I have a natural part but I still manage to sometimes part on the opposite side when my hair is wet... not sure if that helps either. Hope you can work with this since your locks have come a long way.
