organic face washes?

General Questions

I have started to use a baking soda wash for my face and back and so far it really seems to be doing the trick.. it's like 3 parts baking soda to one part water... it's inexpensive, easy, and effective, worth the try for sure

DEAD ENDS

General Questions

yea i have the same thing going on.. not really sure what to do about them so i've decided not to worry about it.. :) i would like to know if there is a solution though or if it's just part of having the dreads..

I am that brain dead jock....

Dreading Methods

be who you want to be and do what you want to do. people are judgmental, even on this site, but you take the good with the bad. what people think about you doesn't change who you are. people have dreads for different reasons. maybe for no reason at all. some people with dreads are just as shallow as the "barbie doll or jock". and not all "barbies and jocks" are shallow. we're all individuals and stereotypes are nothing but a human-made judgement.. so screw it, live life and be happy and don't give a shit what other people think or say. :)

I have quite a few questions about the natural method.

Dreading Methods

I had some of the same reservations as you. I was anxious about going to work and out in public with "messy" hair. So for the first six months I honestly wore my wool tam EVERYWHERE. But since it's hot now I just wear a headband or a bandanna. Both hide the frizz a bit. You could find yourself lightweight cute hats to wear to hide the messiness also. And honestly other than the frizziness I didn't notice that my hair was messy looking all that often. I also found that if I wet my hair or washed it then my hair would appear more manageable. Surprising to me I've been getting tons of compliments from the management in my company about my dreads but I expected them to be more opposed so it just shows that you can never assume anything about people. If you have super curly hair like I have than you won't have any trouble at all getting a head full of dreads. I remember having 3 start almost immediately underneath and now they are awesome dreads only eight months later. For me, months 2-5 were frustrating and felt like nothing was happening than BAM after six months they really took off. All it takes is patience and remembering that even if you aren't visibly seeing the dreads that every day they are knotting themselves up even more.

Nautral Dreadlocks???

Dreading Methods

I am so glad that I decided to go the natural route. It's only been two months of not combing and I'm surprised at how many dreads have started forming. Some have already knotted up to the root.

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I used to live in MN my entire life before I moved out here to norcal a year ago and I know what you mean about the closemindedness of most (not all) midwestern conservative people. As much as i love my roots and where I am from I will never move back to the midwest. I am so much happier and all i had to do was change location. I am farther from my family, the closest aunt is 13 hours away which is difficult at times. All you gotta do is find some funds and friends and move out west! :) that's what i did.. otherwise stay strong and true to yourself because who cares what other people think about their hair, let it be!
