what is the best way to dry your hair after washing, and what works best for you?

General Questions

I squeeze em as best I can to get water out, towel dry them, then I walk around with a towel on my head for a few minutes. When I can, I blow dry them a bit but I usually don't have the time. My dreads are fairly thin and short but still take half a day to fully dry. Putting them up in ponytails makes them dry slower, hats are also not good.Warm+wet=prime bacteria real estate. Gotta find what works with your life I suppose

Free dread beads to all members who want them

Dread Craft Show and Trade

Heyo, I'd like a couple beads! Send me a msg and I'll send my US address. Unfortunately I wont get them until spring since I'm in Germany until then and you shouldn't send things here since that's really expensive. And I can send some stamps, no prob =)

if you used a dreadkit before would you ever use a dread kit again?

Dreading Methods

I wouldn't say kits are a disaster, just a complete waste of money. It's clear you don't need one, especially so overpriced. I used everything in the kit but besides the wax mistake they did eventually begin to lock up quite well. If I were starting with a new head =P I'd use a metal comb, sea salt, and rubber bands. (Shampoo didn't hurt either, but its unnecessary). Rubber bands definitely helped dreads to lock up, as did anything else I put in my hair that helped it to tangle (like cloth or hairties). Dude I was just going to write something like that !

So no I would never ever recomend someone to buy a kit. I just don't know why they are still selling that crap. wow so amazing i'll got dread tomorrow no you will not and it could be a disaster!

Don't buy a kit please. Just let your hair do what they want you will probably be more satisfied...

No way. I was uninformed and thought products were the only way to get dreads. Naturals the way to go and you're hair forms how it wants. Beautiful dreads take time not manipulation and abuse.

Hallo to the dreadheads, i'm Natalya

Introduce Yourself

Hi all, I'm Natalya. I fell for the DHHQ scam back in June because I didnt know much about dreads nor did I know too many people who had them. The site seemed to have all the answers so I believed them. A couple of my friends spent about 18 hours backcombing my hair after which I proceeded to put wax in every new dread. My dreads seemed rather strange and sticky ish at first, then after a few weeks I noticed this white goo in them after showering. I realized it was wax mixed with water and who knows what else and it wouldn't come out. It was so gross! I did some research on wax removal and ended up washing my head thoroughly with dish-washing soap. And I do mean thoroughly, many latherings, several hours, and very hot water. I know there is still some caked in a couple, I can feel it, but for the most part my dreads are looking much better and they started locking up way way faster since washing all that gunk out. (Restarting was not an option for me, I didn't want to cut them off, nor did I have the time, energy or heart to comb them out.)Right now I am spending a semester abroad in Berlin and doing next to nothing to maintain my dreads, just letting them be. But I do still wash with dhhq shampoo. They started forming bumps and loops, and some are totally loose while some look amazingly locked. No consistency at all. I tried to count, got about 75 6-8inch dreads. Hoping to keep that number and not let them grow together.Looking forward to chatting with you all =)

how many is too many...

General Questions

I have 75 or so and I'd like it to stay about that. A friend of mine has 22. His are super uneven and lumpy but they have lots of character. Mine have more subtle individuality, but i like that they're skinny and that theres lots of them.
