I'm thinking Ocean Beach. I saw some nice places for around 6-700. Faelwynn said:
How far south are you looking to go? El cajon is pretty far down there, but it stays warm most all year, biking is no problem anywhere, and while jobs can be pretty hard to find, you just have to know where to look. The only downside is the cost. Our one bedroom costs 900$ a month, and if it weren't for government programs and my mate's disability, then there'd be no way we could live here. Granted, the availability of fresh food makes the struggle completely worth it in my opinion. Now if only they could find a way to make cherry season last longer... ^-^

Starting over in SoCal

General Talk

Hey Everybody,I just went through a huge change in lifestyle as I decided to sell my raw food cafe and go back to school at University of Natural Health to become a Hygienic Doctor/Naturothopath. All the details about my drastic decision are here http://rawnaturalliving.com/?p=338 if you are curious.More to the point, I have decided that since I am making such a big change already, I will finally move myself to the proper climate for my lifestyle. The NJ living is getting to me, especially now in the dead of winter. I ride my bike as my primary transportation and I am a bit tired of riding in 22F weather through snow and ice with angry motorists.I am looking for an apartment and a job while I attend school online. If anyone has any leads or suggestions I would love to hear them. Thanks everyone!

who here has dreads and isn't Rastafarian?

General Talk

Dreadlocks go back to Ancient Egypt even before to ancient Sumer. The ancient celts wore them too and so did most of the anglo and germanic tribes. Rastafarian is not the root of dreadlocks. Nature is the root of dreadlocks and of all things. I respect your beliefs and how dreads fit into them but please show respect to other cultures who had dreads long before and for different reasons.Peace

Just not locking up

General Questions

patience man...I don't understand your logic. If they are not locking up yet, then why would you think you should "start over". Thats like setting out to dig a 20 foot hole. You get to 5 feet and get really impatient that it is taking so long. So then you fill the whole back up and start digging again in the same spot.If they aren't locked just let them be and wear a tam in situations that require it. You have typical caucasian straight hair. Of course it will take a long time. Maybe you are just not ready for an exercise in patience of this magnitude. If that is the case just start brushing for now and wait until you think you are truly ready. At least now you know what you are getting yourself into. The funny part is though, if you let them dread on their own from now on, you would have dreads wayyyy before you would have them if you gave up and started over in a few years. So your lack of patience is only going to force you to wait even longer. What are you washing them with btw?

Pronunciation

General Questions

Ahhh yes sign language. As beautiful as well thought out poetic spoken word can be, it is pretty much useless in the big picture. Think about how subjective every word can be. Anyone who is clever enough can interpret any word or set of words to mean absolutely anything and still somehow be correct. Verbal language, in my opinion is just art. The only objective form of expression is body. We communicate more with how we stand, how we move, how we sit, etc. than we ever could with words. Smiles, frowns, sneers, grins, there is no mistaking the language of our body. Someone can tell you something and it may or may not be true, but anyone who has enough awareness of subtlety can see right through a half hearted smile , or a see the suppression of a toothy grin behind the guise of a frown. One of my favorite, and in my opinion most interesting bible stories is the tower of babble. What if we were as advanced as animals, to be able to communicate effortlessly with our bodies. Have you ever really watched a swarm of gnats. Look how fast they move and how close together they are yet they NEVER collide. That kind of efficiency of communication is remarkable. Its almost magnetic. It makes me laugh when we praise our species for the ability to communicate verbally. As I said, I do love words and their artistic potential, but they are truly inefficient relative to the communication mediums of our animal friends. Its funny that we are so shocked when certain animals can be trained to speak or sign using our verbal language. It never occurs to most people that when animals learn our language they most likely find it very limiting. Think about all the times you have an image in your mind yet you just can not find the words to express it sufficiently. Even when you get the words you are invariably dissapointed in that the idea seems drastically undercut by simple static verbiage. If we push beyond our so called "advances" and learn from our friends on this earth we may eventually broaden our communication to inconceivable heights. Telepathy is only far fetched to those who are attached to a static reality. How often do you "just know" what someone is going to say, or hear someone say exactly what you were thinking. We tend to shrug off these phenomena as coincidence. If we keep an open mind and expand our awareness we can see the logic and science involved. The subtle vibrations that are emitted by our thoughts and gestures are the most efficient form of communication when one becomes sensitive enough. lol this turned into quite a rant... Alden said:

I prefer the English(British) pronunciation of most words.... There appears to be more respect for the art of linguistics across the pond.

Amen! Tho I have to say my person preference of language is Sign Language, it captivates me. It's such a beautiful way of communicating.

And the 'usage' thing kills me! Hearing someone say "irregardless, blah blah blah" when they should have said 'regardless' instead makes me cringe with the thought of the uneducated Americans who want to complain about other races not speaking English when they aren't able to speak their own native tongue properly!!!!

AAAAHHH I need a cigarette!!!

General Questions

lolI love this post.I can deal with the variation of pronunciation, but what gets to me is USAGE. There are so many words that are used unconsciously or just plain misused. I love philosophy so I really dig into words and their origins. When you become very aware of your day to day speech you can find yourself using routine words and catching a few that just aren't used correctly by 90% of the people who use them. And of course there are the dreaded "BUZZ words" lol. You all know what I am talking about. Those fad words that just get totally abused for a few months by anyone who wants to sound "with it"Anyway I like how you think Alden. I prefer the English(British) pronunciation of most words. The American English version just seems a bit lackluster and crude. There appears to be more respect for the art of linguistics across the pond.
