I got my first rude comment

General Questions

I was at my kids' homeschool group this week talking with my friend. Another mom came over and joined in talking. The conversation was on hair. They started talking about hair and how styling is a pain. I said that I no longer had styling issues. The other mom asked why. My friend said "because she is dreading her hair". The mother mom says"OH GROSS, DON'T DO THAT. WHEN I SEE PEOPLE LIKE THAT I GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STREET OR GET FAR AWAY BECAUSE I JUST KNOW THEIR HAIR BUGS ARE GOING TO GET ON ME"I got really defensive and asked her why she thought that. She said because people with dreads don't wash their hair. Ahhhhhhh! I told her that was a myth and anyone who cared about their dreads washed them. She made some other comment and I kind of snapped back that my hair was probably cleaner than most peoples. Now I am debating if I should apologize to her for snapping at her. At least if I apologize to her and explain why I snapped at her it will open the door for me to educate her a little more and let her know that my hair is important to me.Either way it was not fun.

I turned into Madussa overnight!

General Talk

Nope no wax for me. They are about shoulder length so they are not too long. And yes they may have still been a bit damp. I do not worry too much about drying since I live in a hot climate and it dries fast. That is probably what happened. I just was so shocked when I looked in the mirror this morning! I started laughing and woke my husband up.

I turned into Madussa overnight!

General Talk

Last night I was my hair as usual. I went to bed and this morning when I woke up I had turned into Madussa. I mean my hair was WILD looking, dreads sticking up and out all over like little snakes. Usually the day after a wash I am fuzzy but this is a new development.I am sure it will tame down in the next day or two but geeeeeez, I look insane!Does this happen to anyone else? I am just curious.

What should i do? i have to go to court on Oct. 8

General Questions

When you go to court be sure to yourself as a polite, well mannered, and mature young person. How you act is going to be 99% more important than how you look. Make sure to be as polite and cooperative as you possibly can be, no smart ass comments.I am a grown woman (I have a teenage son!) and my mother kind of freaked out when she saw my hair for the first time a few weeks ago. You just can't please everyone. I just did my best to let her know my hair was super clean and healthy and tried to keep it tame. I think a lot of times people have the myths about dreads stuck in their heads and you have to reassure them that they are not true.If you have been smoking you will want to stop. Sometimes the courts will order drug testing if they suspect anything. You do not need that!Good luck

Tattoos

General Talk

I do not have any. I never could think of anything I would want on my body forever. If somehow I was convinced to get one I think I would get a tattoo of a cupcake. I love cooking, eating, baking, eating, recipes, eating, meal planning, eating, food shopping and did I mention eating? I love me some cupcakes! I don't forsee a time in my life when I will ever not love the sweet sweet nectar of the God's known as cake so what the heck.Wow I am a weird person.

My scalp hurts...

Dread Maintenance

I have a couple really good dreadies going. A couple of them seemed to have mated together. These ones are making my scalp hurt just slightly. Anything I can do to be comfortable?

Good Grief!

Dreads in the Family

I just got back from visiting my family. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh!Guess what I heard constantly?Yup hair comments.By day two I was ready to shave my head and scream "ARE YOU HAPPY NOW?"The funny thing is my dad did not notice, he just asked what color my hair was this time. My best back home friend did not notice either until I pointed it out.My mother would not shut up about my dready hair. One day I aloed it down because I was having a wild fuzz day and she was commenting and looking and I just did not want to hear it anymore. She said it was all in fun but it was not fun for me. I even explained that my hair was very clean and healthy and that before I had been going bald but now I was losing much less hair. No one cared, I just looked like a freak to them.On a nice note I enjoyed going to the co-op store a couple times. Lots of natural types there and no one looked at my hair twice because I was one of several dready shoppers. That was nice.
