We need a "My hair won't naturally dread" support group!

Dreading Methods

Maybe I would be the only member?

Is there anyone else here like me? I have not put a brush or comb in my hair in over 3 weeks. I actually never comb or brush my hair and it is still as straight and tangle free as ever. When I dreaded last time I had to put in a huge amount of effort. It just seems wrong to put in that much effort to something that is supposed to be natural and effortless. Maybe my natural state is straight and untangled?

Am I alone in this?

Name calling

Introduce Yourself

No one ever called me a name but I get comments like "dreads are for black people" and the best was when another mom at my kids homeschool group told me "ewww don't dread your hair, when I see people with dreads I cross the street so their bugs don't jump on me". I gave her a lecture and a half on how my hair was probably cleaner than hers since I do not use a ton of hair products and wash it all the time with soap that does not leave build up. Ha ha! My family laughs at me and makes little comments and I just try not to even bring up the topic, I don't pick on their hair so why should anyone pick on mine?

Want to dread again but Dr B's is making my hair yucky

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

We did move about 6 months ago. Maybe the water has caused some build up in my hair.

Dreads Hair and Scalp Health

What do you think I can do about this?

I have decided to dread again. I use Dr. B's to wash my hair even when I am not dready. I have been using it for awhile now but suddely it seems like it is not cleaning my hair. My hair feels greasy even after washing, my hair used to feel super clean.

dread accelerator sea salt and lemon juice

Dread Products

Heat will cause lemon juice to lighten your hair. It is one of the ingredients used in a product called Sun In that is used to lighten the hair. You can use it either in the sun OR with a hair dryer.

Remember me....

Introduce Yourself

I miss my dreads.........sniff....tear....sniff.....Now my hair is shorter than when I dreaded it before. I am an idiot. On a good note my daughter (she is 10) wants to dread. She has tons of super thick hair and it naturally dreads in the back. I told her if we just leave it alone it will happen but she said she does not want to look like she is dirty for three weeks (it is more than she does not want her friends to think that, she knows dreads are clean) so she wants to me help her make things a little more managed. She will be so cute with her freckles and strawberry blonde dreads.

Heck in a few months I am taking a cruise and I will be spending a couple days in some tropical location on the beach. I know salt water is helpful to start the process...you never know I might start again then ;)

General Talk

On Dec. 27 I decided to end my dread journey. I was just unhappy with how they were forming. I was able to comb them out with minimal hair loss, it took hours. I am so bummed. I think one of my mistakes was that the back of my hair was too short. I think I might let my hair grow out and try again. One wonderful thing about this whole journey is my hair has never been healthier! My hair has not been this soft and healthy since I was in middle school!!! I am going to continue using an organic soap for washing and do minimal styling and combing. If nothing else at least I got that from this process.I hope to be back in the ranks of the dready again someday, this just not my time. Thank you all for being supportive with my questions and my family issues. The dread community is one full of great people :)
