Misunderstanding of loose roots maintenance? Help!

Dread Maintenance

It looks like you got some good advice, just wanted to say I agree with everyone else, don't do that.. It isn't helpful. Leave them alone, let them do their thing! Good Luck!

How to combine dreads?

Dreading Methods

I wouldn't use rubber bands, they can melt and break the dread. Some people have had good luck and only lost the rubber bands, but many if you search online have had major dread losses. Thread is better. GL!

well if u cant stop seperating the ones you want to connect i would do the hemp thing that worked really well for me. i did all my dreads in hemp back when they were babies. beads also help but beads only cover a small area so it depends on what kind of effect your going for. good luck. oh with rubberbands though i put a few in mine when i started like 4 yrs ago and last year i found a rubberband stuck inside of one of my dreads and i had to try to dig it out cuz it was getting eaten by my dread so if u use rubberbands just keep track of em. lol i mean it didnt hurt anything and im sure i could have just left it but i persoanlly didnt like the look of it so i pulled it out.

How to combine dreads?

Dreading Methods

In my experience, from what I have noticed is that often T&R dreads will shrink and fatten as they knot. So maybe yours wont be as thin as you think. You could crochet them together, but a bead on them, sew them with their own loose hairs, wrap them, or just let them eat each other over time. I combined some that were really mature using a crochet hook and sewing needle along with some hemp thread.

Buying essential oils

General Talk

Aura Cacia brand I believe is good too, and I trust it. I buy their brand all the time at Greenlife or Earth Fare natural health stores. Almost all of my EO are Aura Cacia brand.

I have questions about dreadwax - yes, I'm really asking this here lol

Dread Products

My first set of dreads were backcombed in 2008 and caked with knotty boy dread wax and rubber bands. Thank goodness I figured out that both the wax and rubber bands were reeeeeaallllly bad sooner than later. I combed them out quicky but had greasy wax soaked hair that took a lot of washing and combing to get the wax residue out.Wax free here now, thank you very much! I can't tell someone not to sell or market a product, but whats wrong with the world now is that people are too dishonest anymore just to earn a buck. How would you feel if someone sold some junk to you making you believe that YOU NEED IT and that ruined your hair?Just be real with people.. Just sayin. It will take us all farther.(Sorry guys for joining the convo late- I had a baby so that makes my absence forgiven right?)

I have also considered this. I had my first set backcombed combed them out. I'm on my 2nd set and they were started neglect and T&R but I listened to an exfriend and went to a salon and had them permed in. Now they are so thin and I think they are so tight that they aren't dreading on their own much, they seem very thin and too skinny. I'm struggling with cutting em short and combing out what I can and starting over naturally with wool hats, or to combine them and pray?I want to say your doing a great thing, I wish I had the guts to know which way I am going with mine. Can't wait to follow your journey!
