HELP...dont want to cut...but...

Help! Save My Dreads

hey there Ive had my locks for almost 2 years in Jan, the roots shoulda locked up by now, but if you have been crocheting alot you are going to make your locks permanently high maintenance.

now you say you are twisting? are you african american (different hair types respond better to different methods) I rarely crocheted, but I started doing something called pinch rolling to keep my fly hairs from making my head look to fuzzy and its been working really well the past few months without having to do much to my hair.

has anyone had really good luck with the backcombing methodd

Dreading Methods

hey there, I started mine jan 2009 with this method,, biggest thing with any of the methods is to be patient, you can see how mine came along, I love mine now and they look awesome to me, but as with any method you will have rough frustrating phases. no matter the method once they mature they will look great, it's having the commitment to get there that's the hard part. good luck man

How often and how do u wash your head ?

Dread Maintenance

now that i'm coming up on the 2 year mark,,,whenever i feel like it, my scalp rarely itches from taking care of it over time,

or I will when i want my hair to smell awesome, I'd say i take a shower every day, but get my hair every 4-8ish days.

I just use the peppermint or lavender dr bronners (sometimes mixed) with tea tree and rosemary essential oils added.I would say that it really just depends on how much you are forced to sweat, If i bust my ass working in a day, I'll usually shower shortly after so I don't smell terrible, If it's just from going from one place to another It's not bad at all and my hair remains smelling good or just neutral for days on end.

Looking for a job and needing something to hide my messy hair

General Questions

I take a glob of aloe vera (one of those 99% ones with a little vitamin e/c in it) and smooth it in my hands and run it back over my hair, works really well for me. it's conditioning as they say, so I don't do it too much, but it definitely is something I highly recommend to anyone with dreadlocks.

Backcombed dreads!??!? are they dooooomed!?

Introduce Yourself

hey man, my locks are nearly 2year backcombed, just take good care of your hair from here on out, you will notice alot of loosening/changes in the next 9months (you always will but these first few months are significant)and they look good so far :)

Dreads in your face

General Questions

at work this was a pain in the butt for me to,If they are barely long enough you can try to tuck the front locks underneath and around the locks that are being pulled back successfully by your pony tail, other than that I had to use two hair bands to pull my hair back w/o it looking silly. (actually three but ive since managed to get it down to just having to use one.

Dread Maintenance

I went to dayglo, where you get covered in paint, just wash it out, it won't be that bad.

How to combine dreads?

Dreading Methods

hey man, the prior ideas work well just give em time, or wait till your roots have finished locking and you have to separate them occasionally, I have a few that con joined by themselves be4 i noticed, I added a peyote stitch to one pair and they have joined really well over the last year and have a cool Y shaped tip.

Do they dread themselves???

Dread Maintenance

yeah man, I've had the same, they will always lock up automatically at the roots over time, just make sure they don't ninja congo over time. (unless you want them to of course :)
