Words of encouragement

General Talk

Tara, it was a combination of things. I didn't like the size of them for one. My gf didn't like them ( which shouldn't have mattered) lol I actually ended up cutting them on a drunken night I've regretted it since.

Words of encouragement

General Talk

I'm thinking of taking the dread plunge again. I found a "dread drawer"(dread accessories) at my parents house and it made me want to take the journey again. My hair is currently very short #3 against the grain (for My people with clipper knowledge) so it's going to be a while. Just wanted some encouragement from the dreaddy community. It's been a while and the site looks a lot different I'm excited!

Not sure if my dreads are even growing?

Help! Save My Dreads

are you for sure they arent growing? I've never heard of someones hair not growing. Are you loosing your hair (genetics) are you shedding a lot.How is your diet? Dreads are different until they get longer and heavier they don't show length. My hair seems very short until I wash them the. They areWet and heavy and I can shake them and they actually move. But.. Reality sets in and they dry and Matt back Down..I wouldnt worry about it.. I'm sure your fine... Just forget about them.. A watched pot never boils... Keep this in mind. Happy dreading

The easiest way to get beads on?

Dread Products

What I do is attatch a crochet hook to the bottom of your dread.. Then feed the dread up the base of the crochet hook until you get it on the dreadlock.. This way you are able to control the way the bead hole is.

I had a bit of trouble putting g beads on. mine are very very new so i debt know if this would apply to you but i found twisting the dread to make it tighter, then twisting the bead itself around the dread continually spinning it as you move it up its alto easier :) i like this thread idea but gonna have to try that!

What does soap residue feel like?

Dread Maintenance

Acv will help clarify as well.. I only like to use bsAnd the acv about once a month I think it leavesMy hair dry. So I use a more traditional shampoo.I assume there are residues being left behind so IDo a deep clean with the bs and a acv rinse

am i on the right track??? how do they look

Dread Maintenance

With your hair being so short. You want to use a light moisturizer.to keep your parts you'll want to twist and rip the ones that become undone (or put rubber bands on them not to snug though they should be able to move freely).Any shampoo that you use should be in a sPray bottle and diluted just be very light wash your scalp. Du rags are good to sleep in.

Retwisting Really Isn't Necessary

General Talk

It's simply a way of combing/brushing your hair... Think about it... Un-dreadedHair is brushed and or combed. Then you get dreads and you twist, crochet, interlock ect.Once you let go of the ritual you get rid of the problem causing habits that damage our hair.

A tam would keep you from fussing with your hair so much. I "play" with my hair alot but have been trying to lessen maintenance. You're just going to have to be patient dear as I'm sure yOu know there is really no short cut time is your friend. Get you a nice tam to keep your hands away from your head :)

Hi Kim! Okay, here is the thing. You don't actually have dreads yet...but you will. Doing T&R or backcombing is just a starter that some people utilize...but, it is not dreads. It is stuck together hair that resembles dreads. That is why it falls apart and loosens. The hair simply can not dread if it doesn't loosen and the strands don't rub against each other. That is how it "knits" together. So many people become anxious and try to "help" their hair along. Your hair doesn't need your help, it knows what to do. I find that dreads are something that kind of calls to people. We feel drawn to them for many reasons...some spiritual, some not, but we have reasons that they appeal. I also find that many of the people they appeal to are very O.C.D and obsessed with control and perfection. But I believe that is the lesson. Dreads can teach us many things about ourselves, we just need to stop asserting our will. You are the very type who needs dreads the most...to free yourself and be yourself...but, you are also the very type who it will be difficult with and drive crazy!!!! LOL...I know....me too! But you have to see that anything we strive so hard to control really is a problem. Instead of struggling, lay back and float....that is the lesson. Ofcoarse, right away...many people say, but I will look ugly and unkept...I will lose my job....blah, blah, blah.....All liesto keep you in a place of unhappiness. Who cares if you have messy hair? Really no one in the end but you. The best gift you can give yourself is dreads...and to get there you have to let go. Much love <3

Dreadlock Brushing

Dread Maintenance

Change~ said:

huh thats interesting. im sure its fine for mature dreads of all kinds. exactly what brush is this? im interested in the flake removal lol

It's called a 100% boars hair brush. They have them at sallys. They have them in different hardness levels ranging from soft to hard.I like them for scalp stimulation I'd go for a more firm one for your scalp and a softer one for the rest of the dread.
