Hello everyone! New with dreadlocks and it have some questions! :)

Introduce Yourself

Yeah, the roots will lock up more in time... Looks good. You could wash every other day at max if you want to (that's what I have been doing for the last few months) but 1-3 days a week is usually sufficient.

Places to get dreads in FL (Tampa and surrounding areas)

General Talk

Yeah, generally speaking, salons just want money for something you could do yourself. If you want to get locks, twist and rip generally works well.. Natural/neglect is the most simple way to do it though, and it doesn't require much work. If you don't trust your friends to do it (people you know) why would you trust someone you don't even know to do it for you? Unless your friends aren't really into the idea.

If you can't get that, read about the BS wash in this link.. It works really well for quite a few people, but not everyone.

Freeforming for 20 months from a fade?

Introduce Yourself

I mean, with bob marley it didn't take forever, but there was definitely a point where he had a fro for quite some time.

Freeforming for 20 months from a fade?

Introduce Yourself

Then again, there are other people like Garnett Silk (another reggae singer) who's started locking up pretty quickly.. lol.. Not trying to associate locks just with reggae, it is just easier to have someone you can look up and see pictures of.

shoulder length hair

Introduce Yourself

Generally, at that length, while it is locking it almost seems to just stay the same length for quite some time.. Because the growing/shrinking times match up to a certain degree.. Shrinkage shouldn't be too major. Much love and peace to you! :D

Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo with Peppermint??

Dread Products

Personally, I have talked to multiple other members on here, and from personal experience, it will eventually cause quite a build up.. It may be ok to use on occasion, but I wouldn't suggest it for long term use.. You may not have any problems with it, but like I said, from those I have talked to, and from what I have experienced, when you first begin using it, it seems ok, but through time it definitely caused a build up for me... So, I guess you could try it out and see how it works for you, but be a little cautious.. If you look around enough on this forum, you will find some articles on some of the problems people have had with it. (once again, I am not saying to not use it.. Just would be good to read about them, so you know what to look for.)

Dreading Methods

You could just do the twist and rip method.. Or just do the natural method. Wishing you much love and peace.
