Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo

Dread Products

Update FYI - I've been using the Rosemary Mint shampoo diluted and it works just as well as full strength. I can put a pea-sized amount in a squirt bottle with water, shake, dump, and refill with bubbles once or twice more. Doing it that way I think one bottle will go pretty far actually. Just wanted to let you know! Peace & Blessings.

I have done everything 'wrong' and my dreads are awesome!

Dread Maintenance

I think it was clear from Leah's initial post that she had some venting of frustration to do. She was open about that need. Unfortunately, it is common to come across folks who feel judged and oppressed by what they perceive as a rigid dogma regarding dread formation and maintanence on this forum. The line between acceptance of difference and faithfulness to one's own beliefs is a difficult one to walk.Personally, I don't feel great about the "get in line or go somewhere else" message that I am hearing. Meanwhile, I also understand the need to get information outto people about methods that have been harmful to some. I hope that there is some happy medium that this community can find, a balance of tolerance and integrity that can be stuck.Just wanting to voicethat wish into the universe.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo

Thanks for giving it a whirl and letting us know! Yeah, I was thinking about diluting it or alternating with another (cheaper) shampoo.

I have nothing to add that is overwhelmingly positive or negative. It works, though more of it is required than I would like.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo

Dread Products

Will do Roxie! Here's my update so far:

I've usedthe Aveda Scalp Remedy Shampoo3 times now and I'm pretty happy with it. It makes my scalp feel great right after I wash it; although, I still feel the need to wash every other day because my scalp seems to demand it. I'm not having to use the Chamomile Tea/ACV spray as much though so that's a plus. I think I'm going to have to learn to tolerate a bit of dry scalp if I want to have dreads, and I'm starting to accept that. I like the smell as well, it's a woodsy scent with cherry/honeysuckle undertones; at least, that's what I think of when I smell it. The rosemary mint one smells good too. I haven't washed with it yet, but it's well...minty.

My hair feels clean, not oily but not completely stripped either, soft yet dry. Now to see if my hair will knot while I'm usingit, and the only way to really know that is time. The only downside as I see it is the amount I am using and the cost. The bottle was like $12, it'll be less if I buy in bulk next time but I wanted to test it out first. We'll see how long a bottle lasts me, but I'm guessing only a month or two if I'm lucky. But $12 a month for happy hair/scalp may be worth it to me!

If anyone else tries it I would be glad to hear their experiences. Good or Bad.

Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo

I picked up Aveda's Scalp Remedy and Rosemary Mint Shampoos today, plan on giving them a whirl. Tried the Scalp Remedy today and I think I may have found a winner! Plus, I got a complement on my "fun" hair from the shop lady as well as a quick free blue oil massage. Gosh I love Aveda :)

I am new to discerning what shampoos are dread friendly or not, but I have been using a lot of Rosemary Mint tea in maintaining mine so far and I really like Aveda's products so if this would work that would be great! Has anyone tried it before? Could someone more experienced with checking out ingredient lists give this one a look over for me? Thanks!

Tousle or Not to Tousle

Dread Maintenance

I have naturally wavy hair, and have used product along with tousling my hair to achieve a "beachy" look for years pre-dreading. It's a habit now, especially when my hair is wet to basicallyscrunch it up with my fingers periodically until it is air dry.It also makes my hair lookbetter during this initial stage, kinda gives it morebody if that makes sense. On one hand I think that this could encourage tangling/knots. On the other I wonder if I'm undoing tangles/knots with all the touching. So my question is to tousle or not to tousle, what are your thoughts?

Marissa you are glowing! And I like the half up/half down pic.I bet after 5 months of mission work, spreading love around, you are going to have some wonderful dreading going on! I can't wait to see them when you return. Plus with your focuson more important things, it will hopefully make the whole dread waiting period seem to go faster.Prayers & Blessings to you!

Dreadlocks Emotional Journey

Life Issues Facing Dreads

I hope you decide to keep them as well. They have taught you such a valuable lesson about healthy love which includes self-love. Loving someone else doesn't mean abandoning love for yourself. Actually, I think healthy self-love makes you more confident and attractive to your mate. You were in that place of self-love when this man originally found you and was attracted to you. Then the shift of all your love to him only, may have been too extreme for the both of you...I don't know if that had anything to do with his leaving the relationship or not,but it happens that way in relationshipsall the time.Anyway, let your dreads be the sirens on the shores of your heart, calling you back to yourself. May they be ropes of rescue holding you secure to weatherthis storm. Reclaim them as symbols of self-love. Prayers for comfort and blessings heading your way.
