[help!] How do I attach a hair strand of mine to the normal / not dreadlocked hair of a friend?

General Talk

Aloha, what's up my fellow earthlings! :)

I cut off a thin strand of my "normal" hair some months ago and now I want to attach it to my girlfriend's "normal" hair. She does have 1 dreadlock, but she wants to have it attached to her normal hair. It's a very thin and kinda short strand of hair (maybe 100-200 hairs (my hair is very thin); 30 cm or 11 inches long). She wants to keep it permanently, so I'm looking for permanent solutions.

I tried to search google and youtube, but only found tutorials about how to attach hair extensions (using glue or clips). We don't want to use glue and clips can disattach and fall off, can't they?

Does anyone know any other methods we could use?
Maybe there is a way to weave in my hair into hers?
Or use use a braid technique to "bridge" my hair with hers? (we want most of the hair to have a normal look, so we can't just braid our hair together using a long braid)
Or maybe use some kind of..knot? lol

Any tips? :)

What happens to negleced African braids? Do they become dreads, eventually?

Dread Maintenance

Yo minna!

^ We all know this hair style, African braids. I'm wondering what happens to a single African braid if you just neglect it. Will it become a dread, say, after a couple of months?

Does anyone know or even speak from experience?
Will it also shrink in length, like a normal dread would? Probalby not, because of its braided structure..right?

PS: what happens if you neglect larger / normal braids? What happens to them?

Should I sleep on my hair or put it aside?

Dread Maintenance

ho everyone!

I have hip-long hair (they're still a long way from dreading) and I noticed that after it has been slept on, it's more tangled in the morning. It's probably because of sweating, because when I have my hair between my back and the bed sheet it can get really warm during the night.

Anyway, tangling will help the dreading process, right? But will sleeping on my dreads cause unnecessary stress on my hair? And the little bit of sweat that accumulates in my hair probably won't help either, right?

Could anyone shed some light on this?

HELP! Will a hair tie help the natural dreading process or not?

Dread Maintenance

Waddup everyone! :>

I have normal, pretty straight hip-long hair. I want to start my dreading process - right now! I'm going the natural way of course.

So on to my question: I normally wear my hair using a small rubber hair tie. Will this help the dreading process? Or should I wear my hair open whenever possible? Is there a consensus on this?

What's your experience? :]
