Long Time no See

Introduce Yourself

Wassup everyone! Long time no see. I joined this site back in 2011 when my first daughter was born.My wife and I ended up moving and work got busy and i havent been on here for a long time. Since then we've had another daughter, and my locks have reached full maturity. I credit Soaring Eagle and lot of experienced dreadies here with helping me reach that goal, trust me, all yall newbies are in good hands. To all those whom i had a friendship with im sorry, i know i fell off, but life got crazy, i hope all of yall are doing well. I have also become a Rastafarian...it was a long time coming, but my locks attracted just the kind of people in my life, and to me is was Jah calling out to me (my hair i mean). So i feel as though i have come full circle. From a clueless newbie looking for answers, to an experienced dread that has found not only locks answers but spiritual ones too, thanks to SE, this community, and the experiences i've has since i've become a Rasta...Hit me up if you wanna catch up. If you're newbie and got any questions feel free to ask. Jah bless you all, praise be to His Imperial Majesty, Haile Selassie I.

Much love,

Mario

Root Separating

Dread Maintenance

U should go down to tge root, if u leave that connected, those two dreads will just re-congo. U wanna do this after a wash though, dry separating hurts like a bitch!!!! Lol, youll notice that after a while, they wont congo as much. Good luck n blessings Kat.

Just got hair dreaded today. Need help please.

Help! Save My Dreads

Wassup man, your situation was mine to a T. Im mulatto n had my shit twisted as well. I was also unsure of what to do so i went to a hair dresser, got them twisted with wax n jamaican mango lime gel n didnt wash my hair for 2 months, i had to argue with my hair dresser to wash iy. When i used to come in, she would rub a thin comb in my scalp between the dreads n dry gel n wax flakes wouldcome flying out, that was my "wash". After i got the wax be gone i used it 5 times all the wax came out n my tips were still locking, i had no dreads at all really, but thar was when i saw my dreads actually lock up, u can see my progress in my page. I guess if u wanted to, you could also get the residue free locking gel from the same site as the wax be gone if you wanna keep them kind of neat, but you would not be twisting them hard, just lightly to keep the shape, that gel comes off with every wash. As far as shampoos go, i would suggest staying away (for now) from the bars, as they require more vigorous scrubbing, theyre for more mature dreads, the liquid helps ur hair lock n is a lot more gentle, allowing your dreads to keep their shape. Then just pat them dry, or light blowdry n air dry. Your hair should dread up mad quick, thats what happened to mine. Good luck homie, hope all this info helps.

Liquid dreadlockshampoo

Introduce Yourself

Yea u gotta touch the hair diego, so u can work it into ur scalp. The mess is a part of the deal anyway, but if you really gonna get in there you gotta scrub a little bit. I pour a little bit in the palm of my hand, pat it over my dreads n work it in with my fingertips. Not for nothing, but im pretty sure the goddess scent was geared towards women i think, not that you cant get it, if you like the smell than thats cool, but i think thats what it was geared towards. She sends free samples both liquid n bars of a couple of her products. Maybe next time you can request a specific one im sure.Bless up!

General Talk

Preach Spence!!!! i wasnt as informed to start n twisted mine n was told not towash for 2 months, upon questioning that is when i found this site n have gone neglect since! i have had the same problems. Im Brazilian born, but mulatto, dad black, mom white, but when i got here i was accepted by the black community in my high school at the time n have really felt like it was my people, afterall, we all originated from the motherland. Now i realize my people, are my true friendsand my family, and i dont let the opinion of people of my own race affect me. Let them twist the shit out of their hair. When ur 40-50 N jave nice healthy dteads n theyre bald as shit, we'll have the last laugh. Stay up homie! i got ur back. One

The pressure to shave...for men.

General Talk

I never really felt pressured to shave, specially now that im stable at my job, i really go on a feel basis, shave it in the summer. Grow it in the winter. I would never conpare our pressure with the pressure women face. About the money topic, i read a pretty interesting quote feom someone "we live in a society that knows the price of everything, but knows the value of nothing." Thats some deep shit. 1 love. Bless

New Locks

Introduce Yourself

Lot to answer here, u dont actually have locks yet, takes years, not weeks for them to reach maturity. Idk what method u used, but if u want ur hair to recover, id suggest leaving them be. Dreads never quite lock at the roots, with the length n weight of the lock, the root generaly stays unlocked and twice as thick as the dread. As far as washing, you shouldbe doing it 2-3 times a week with a non residue shampoo(idk if that lush bar is) i use n recommend any bar or liquid shampoo from dreadlockshampoo.com. Dont wait any longer to wash, dirty hair builds up oil n debris n will take forever to lock, n when it does, itll stink. If wax was used on u u need to get it off asap, that shit traps dirt n moisture which creates dread rot, not a good thing. Its still early, n u can still save ur hair, ur not the only one that fell for the jnstant dread look, i did as well n removed the wax n went neglect ever since. At the end of tge day youll do what u want, but ask urself if tge health of ur hair is worth the "look" of dreads, cuz as i said, 3weeks is a drop of water in the bucket, dreads wont form n mature for 1-2 years. Good luck, bless.
