My hairs not dreading up :(

Dread Maintenance

Hey Ethan!

What have you been washing with? I'm sure you already know that your hair needs to be washed 2-3 times a week with a non resudue shampoo to help the dreading process. I use the baking soda and ACV wash as its super cheap and easy. But there are a other types too.

Backcombing with neglect?

Dreading Methods

No need at all to redo it. just go neglect as the back sections will find their own way. Just keep seperating back there. I backcombed all of my hair and the majority of it did fall out. Im a year in now and still have undreaded bits but thats ok as they are growing into their own dreads, i'm sure their find their way eventually. Good luck with your journey. And whenever you are retempted to back-comb. Dont as it will put you right back to square one!

Fringe disaster!!! Hair Serum Is this ok?

Help! Save My Dreads

Thanks for your reply SE! I dont know what i was thinking cutting it. But its done now. I was worried about having dreads that covered my face as my fringe was really long and started dreading. Sweeping it all back with a headband would have been a better option and just dealing with the messyness upfront! I am definatley a silly billy and should just leave it alone from now on i think if it wants to dread i should let it right!

Fringe disaster!!! Hair Serum Is this ok?

Help! Save My Dreads

Hi guys

So the other day i cut my fringe as im not up for it dreading in just yet.

I have very curly hair natural and have not seen its curlyness since my journey began 11months ago

a dodgie DIY fringe cut resulted in a short springy fringe, which needed a little bit of taming. I used a very small amount of hair serum to try to tame it, then I freaked out and washed it off straight away as was worried that this could be like wax?? Am i wrong? I don't want to be putting nasties in my hair.

Thanks

Curly dreads what to do about bangs?

General Questions

Hey,

its 11months into my journey this month! And the front of my hair is slowly thinking it might dread. But I dont know if want this to happen. I was toying with the idea of a straight blunt fringe but that will require me to straighten and all that.

So. Any curly hair dreadies with advice??

Dreadlock shampoo?

Dread Maintenance

hey fimbul,

The BS and ACV wash dont seem to work to well in our water overhere, so i tend to switch between using the Lush solid shampoo bar called seanik. I find it works great but its does contain a small amount of SLS which isnt the healthiest ingredient ever but its in all standard shampoos and soaps.

The best on I have found here is called Faith in Nature Tea tree again it does have , I dulite a usual shampoo amount into a 1ltr jug and apply direct to the scalp.

Heres the links to ingredients

https://www.lush.co.uk/product/340/Seanik-Solid-Shampoo-Bar

Hope that helps

dreadlocks and how they change you

Member Journals and Timelines

Thankyou so so mych for sharing this tyler! For the last 24 hours I have seriously been debating turning back on this 11month journey of my own. I guess i'm a little afraid now as im noticing real changes and my locks are begining to get tight and shrink up. I too believe this process of abandonment from cultural conformity and the ability to commit is something I want to achieve.

I woke up this morning still un decided. I didn't feel at peace about combing (and i realised i threw all mine away!) so i hopped in the shower to wash my dreads, feeling each one, and i realised i love them, and would regret it now if i did. I'm not done with this journey and still have much to learn. I hope i can write something like your story one day. whether i keep them or part ways with them one day.

Anyway thanks,

Peace
