ah, just read where your hair is short so you can't ponytail it yet like i was suggesting. the scarves are a great idea ... i looked at those gypsy scarves --very cute. So yea i would totally try not to think about the hair too much or it will make you craaaazzzzeee! You will be so happy once your knots start forming!

middle-aged newbie dreadhead

Introduce Yourself

Hi! I am 55 and started my dreds 4 years ago. They are completely natural. I just quit combing (on July 14 '07!)I also worried about the workplace. I kept my hair pulled back during the messy phase ... I was working for a conservative company, and had to keep a low profile ha ha! So, I used a scrunchie or bunned it the best I could. Used a soft head band too. People would tell me that my hair would not dred .. that I didn't have the kind of hair that would dred .. people kept trying to get me to do different things ... people critiqued me behind my back saying things like "she's trying to be black" and so on. My mom was real cool about the whole thing .. but, well she's cool .. ! You are going to encounter all kinds of stuff positive and negative. I was so fortunate to have a close friend who encouraged me and led me in a good direction ... i feel my dreds are his dreds too ... he saw them be born :-) SO i advise to have patience, enjoy the process (i smiled a lot!) I wish you the best! Let me know if i can help! Blessings to you!

General Talk

Okay, I did it. You see the +1 in the blue box, below those numbers at the top; on the regular dreadlockssite.com site, not when you're signed into the forum.
