Coloring dreads

General Talk

My dreads are only a few months old,and I'm sure it is too early to dye them, but I do want to experiment later down the road. I'm really curious, but is hair dye dangerous for dreads? Are there more natural dyes or products to use? I wonder if there are any serious negative effects. If I dyed my hair,I'd only do it once and then let the rest stay natural, so I could have that two-toned look.

General Questions

I found this natural face and body soap at Meijer and it's a 3 bar pack of the soap. Today, I tried it on my hair, and haven't noticed anything negative, but wanted to make sure this doesn't cause a build up...

Is chorline bad for dreads?

General Questions

I want to go swimming this summer, but I'm not too sure if I should swim in a public pool or not considering the levels of chlorine. I hate chlorine. It always makes my skin feel really dry. I can imagine what it would do to hair.

Separating locs after washing

Dread Maintenance

I have a question myself....when should aloe vera be used and for what? When I bought it, I used it for twisting, and then I stopped because I realized it was useless. Now, I don't know what to use it for. I guess if my hair gets really dry?

Congos?

Dread Maintenance

It'd probably depend on the type of hat, because I was always wearing a hat on my first 2 sets of dreads. I haven't wore one since I restarted them, and it feels great not to wear them anymore. I always wore the beanie visor knitted hats, and that definitely caused a lot of mashing because it's rather tight and what not. Thanks again for your reply. I have more hope now. ;)

Congos?

Dread Maintenance

I now separate mine everyday.Since they're new, I'll probably do it less when they mature. I separate mostly while watching movies, but I read on here that it's best to separate after washing them. I guess it's easier and more effective?

I do have a question of my own though; Will separating really prevent my dreads from getting all mashed up? On my last set of dreads, all I did was just wash them, and never did anything and I remember how much I hated the ones in the back. They mashed into my new-growth, but I'm assuming this is cause I wasn't separating. Even my mom would comment on how it looked, and I never got compliments on them. I have gotten quite a few compliments on my new set of dreads, and even I like 'em better. :D

Help

Dread Maintenance

My dreads are coming along very well and I've gotten quite a few compliments on them! All I have been doing is washing and separating. Some of the roots are starting to tighten up and then some are still quite loose. I'm waiting for them to start locking. Some of my dreads, especially in the back, feel as though they're already locked! I'm loving my dreads. :)
