focus less on what they are going to look like. dreads are never going to be immediate, its a long journey for the kind of image you have set in your mind.
i've spoken to people with extensions and they really regretted putting them in.. even the people who had sewn their friends cut dreads into their hair. why would you want something that isn't essentially you? taye is completely right about the energy!
Tea tree oil is great for dreads as it soothes the scalp, helps with itching. <3 There are a bunch of good oils you can use, such as rosemary and lavender too.
Ps. Welcome!
Completely depends on your own personal preference, and the way your hair falls. Middle part is probably most sensible however, as it leaves more room for your roots to separate and clump together if that makes sense.
I just let my hair fall naturally in the back but part it at the front as I have bangs as normal hair. Goodluck, love! Just let it be.
I'd definitely recommend dreads to anyone. Especially the natural neglect method! I'm only 6 months in, and it has been amazing so far. It's almost like watching your (dready) children grow up~ they change and mature so fast. <3
The only con would be separating and the occasional bit of dandruff.
