Dreadlock Shampoo.com Shopping list?

Dread Products

SE why do you say to not shampoo the dreads and only scalp?

I'm alsocurious as to why. The reason I put a little bit directly into the dreads is to help them smell nice, I'm sure they would smell nice regardless but it's just that extra littlereassuranceI get that feels good lol. Also I've heard great things about the new salt spray, should I pick up a bottle of that as well?

Dreadlock Shampoo.com Shopping list?

Dread Products

So a couple months ago I purchased the dragons blood liquid shampoo along with the locking gel, and I love them both. I'm starting to run out and I'm going to place an order for some more stuff soon, though I was hoping to get some questions answered first.

I'm abouuuuuut.... 1 year, 2 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, and 2 hours in to thejourney. Would I benefit more from the liquid shampoo, or from the bar shampoo? Also I'm really not sure if I've been using the liquid shampoo correctly this entire time, though I've seen nothing but progress so I'm not really complaining, just making sure I'm getting the most out of it. I've pretty much been putting a bit into my hand and rubbing it into the roots until I've covered my whole scalp (usually takes about 3 or 4 quarter sized blobs of shampoo). And then wipe the access shampoo on my hands onto my dreads, let it sit for maybe 5-10 minutes, and thenrinseit out. Am I fucking around here or am I actually doing things correctly? lol

Thanks!

The "Weed Smoking Hippy" Stereotype

General Talk

Well, the paper guideline says "For this topic, think of a label or short description used to describe people and explain how it is defined in a particular ad campaign, song or music genre, or television show. For instance, how does the show Desperate Housewives define the term housewife or how does the Apple ad campaign (re)define the label computer geek? Your objective is to establish and support a definition for the label or description through careful observation of the ads, song, or show." So I wanted to do SOMETHING with dreadlocks, but I'm still trying to figure it all out. :P And yeah that would be awesome! Thanks!

The "Weed Smoking Hippy" Stereotype

General Talk

Hahaha, it's fine there's actually some really great stuff in here! I don't know why I didn't think of movies like Pineapple Express and such, that'd be a good one to mention. I could even write about the medicinal aspect of it all and what not. :P By the way this is for ENC1101 (the regular kid entry level college English clas) it's like a pop culture type of class, for whoever that was that asked.

The "Weed Smoking Hippy" Stereotype

General Talk

Hello everyone! It's been a while since I've posted anything on this site, I've just sort of been lurking around for a while now. Well anyway, I've got something to talk about. So I'll start out by saying that ever since middle school, literally everyone who has ever met me has assumed that I smoke pot. I suppose it's just my personality, and that I give off that sort of vibe. However, my sister's were pretty big dope smokers. And with me being the little one, anyone who knew them of course assumed I smoked as well. Well it's never really interested me, and to this day I have yet to smoke, not even once. So pretty much I've been living my entire life (I'm almost 19 now so arguably not that long lol) with everyone I ever meet, thinking that I smoke. And I mean... It's not hurtful or anything, it's just a little annoying ya know? And now with having dreads, this whole thing has been amplified by at least 10 times. I'm about 8-9 months in, and I'm loving it. I love the look on peoples faces when I say "No, I've actually never smoked before." :PSo in one of my college courses, we're writing a paper about stereotypes and I really want to do something with this idea. However the teacher doesn't want it to be a personal essay about myself, but rather how the stereotype has been seen in forms of media. Like a t.v show, movie, or book or something. I'm wondering if anyone has any similar experiences or ideas of where I can start with this. For example the bus driver in the Simpsons is look upon as being a dope smoking hippy (but doesn't have dreads) so I'm trying to think of more things like that.

Baking Soda and Sea Salt ratios

Dread Maintenance

Awesome post! Big big help for me. Though I have a question, I'm about 3 months in, and for the last 2 or so months I've been doing the baking soda wash. I feel like I could stillbenefit from the salt water spray at this point, and thus I'm sitting here letting it soak it lol. But I'm confused about the follow up. After I sit here for 10-20 minutes, I understand I can just wash it out with some water. However if I wanted to follow it with a baking soda wash would I let it sit for 10-20 minutes, wash it out, do the baking soda, let THAT sit for 10-20 minutes, then wash THAT out? Thank you so much!

Oh hey I never thought of that! I play a lot of keyboard after I get out of the shower for some reason so I could just set up my fan and blast it in my face. :P

What if I just use the cold button? Actually I'm not even sure if the one I have in mypossession has one of those, but I do believe they make them like that, no? :o

And thank you Blessed Earth Mama! I just stumbled over some of your pictures and I must say, you're dreads at 4 years before you combed them out looked beautiful!

I forgot to include this earlier but I was also wondering about drying them. I know that it's bad to leave moisture in your dreads because it can cause mold to grow and such. Pretty much I just try to shake it all out and then I kinda palm roll them to get more water out and then let them air dry from there. Though what I'm curious about is every now and then I've been short on time and I would blow dry them. I really like this method of drying them, it's easy and fast and seems to leave them feeling a little bit more clean even. Is this a no-no or is it okay to blow dry them?

Awesome, I must say thank you guys again for all the solid advise. I really appreciate it. Just 2 more things though if you don't mind. I'm assuming acv is the apple venigar stuff? I'm not too certain on the abbreviation. And lastly, how would you recommend I sleep with them? I've put them back in a little pony tail almost every night since I've had them, bad? Good?
