Thanks SE, I hope people will find this helpful over time.

Man, I have no idea how many I have :)

I do think that there are around that many though maybe more than 200, it's total madness on my head haha!

My two strand twist timeline started November 2011

Member Journals and Timelines

Well, I thought I would try to help out a bit by making my own timeline on here. I have not seen many things on this site talking about two strand twists as the beginning method for dreading so hopefully this timeline will be enough to illustrate the process a bit.

I have not used any type of product on my hair besides the baking soda and apple cider vinegar combo mostly although i did try using only dish soap for a while. Anyway, I switched back to the bs/acv in the end and have had nothing but smiles since then :). My hair was initially twisted without any type of product in it (just out of luck I guess since I did not know much about dreading at the time) and all I have ever really done is separate. I did try re-twisting three of them for a while (like once a week) but those three became ridiculously thin at the bases and I just cut them off.

This is me without dreads:

Then this is me with my twists at first (for some reason I look pretty serious here lol:) ):

Here, they were starting to grow out a bit (like four months I think):

Here I am at the moment (current profile pic). It has been about 8 months so far.:

Sorry if it is a bit short right now; I'll definitely be updating it more (maybe bi-weekly or so) from now on.

Well, I suppose it is about time for me to update this timeline a bit so I'll add these pics for now as well some pictures i found from earlier on:

(BTW, so far it has been officially 9 months for me since I began early in November last year.)

My hair got a little bit lighter in spots after spending about two weeks in the sun in Belize so it has changed quite a bit in color I think.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Well, it has now been about ten months since I started so I suppose it's time for another update! :)

They are starting to lengthen faster finally!!

That's all for now folks! :)

Guess it's high time I threw in some more updates here, so:

me at 14months

me at 16 months

me at 17 months

me at 18 months (started lightening my hair)

Current status (19 months!). Much lighter now.

Looking forward to more changes

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

UPDATE!

20 months

21 months

@DemeterGray

Totally glad you made this discussion too. Honestly I had not really thought about my specific reason for dreading until now.

I guess I just have always wanted to have locks since I met my stepfather. He's never had dreads but since I was two, he has always loved them and has a passion for reggae music and stuff. Funny thing is that I grew up (although I'm only 17) loving dreads but disliking reggae.

Go figure...

change of mind and heart!

Introduce Yourself

Ive had my locks for about 6 months now I think and they are just now beginning to show some real progress. I started off with two strand twists (without any products in them, just twisted hair) in November. They seem to losen up a ton for a while and then all of a sudden they stop looking like twists and start to really dread together.

Personally, I wouldn't dare to use pomade since that is what I used when I had only twists last year before november (I used it because I was told that it would help to KEEP MY HAIR FROM TURNING INTO DREADS).
