TnR Update-- 6 months

Member Journals and Timelines

I have reached 6 months! I can't find my original pictures for you guys, but I have my new ones. In the last couple of months, I have seen a ton of crazy looping, especially on my dreads underneath my other hair. I still have some braids because I liked the texture with them, but I am mostly all dreads. I have also been experiencing quite a bit of shrinkage, and as the dreads loop and get sucked in they are getting thicker, which I love, because when I first had them, it looked like I had no hair at all!

I am enjoying the loops, although I am looking forward to mature dreads. Lets just say my parents are not very happy about the loops.... My Dad frequently asks if I can't get rid of them or start over, and he calls me Medusa. :) I am loving them though!

Some more loops:

I'm looking forward to adding some more beads and trying out more styles when I have a little more time!

FUZZ

Dread Maintenance

So, I'm about 2 months into TnR dreads, and I love them! My one problem is that fuzz from sweatshirts and blankets and stuff gets stuck in the dreads, and I can't get it out. Does anybody know if this can be fixed? Please help!

Masha's UPDATE TnR dreads! :) :)

Member Journals and Timelines

Hello. I made my first few tnr dreads yesterday. I have the rest of my hair braided for sections, then I undo them to dread, which helps because it makes my hair really poofy! I washed this morning, and I already see progress. My hair separates pretty naturally. so here is my timeline!

Before dreads:

My first few!

Any tips?

ONE WEEK:

Some are still braided because I haven't had time to do them, but the rest are one week old.

braid method

Dreading Methods

Can anyone tell me about the braid dread method? I heard that if you do small braids and leave them, they will dread. Does having a band on the end prevent it from locking? Will my caucasian hair dread with this method? If anyone has any input, that would be great. Thank you so much!

Sectioning

Dreading Methods

I was just worried because I know that dreads get thicker, and I don't want to end up with some super huge ones, so I wanted to find out a little more about sectioning.

Sectioning

Dreading Methods

Hello. I was wondering if you all could help me. I am getting ready to embark on my dreadlocks journey, and I was wondering about how to section.

I am planning on using the tnr method to start. I don't want really thick or really thin, but kind of middle sized to a little smaller. How big should my sections be to start out? I don't want a ton of dreads, or a smaller number.

And with baby dreads, will they totally fall out when I sleep? Do I need to sleep in a tam or something? Also, is putting baby dreads up in a hairdo bad to start out? Any help would be appreciated!

This is my hair from the back. It is pretty long. Any ideas on how much I would lose? Thanks! :)

TnR dreads

Dreading Methods

Hello.

So I have heard that with twist and rip dreads, you get a kind of weird braided look that never looks like normal dreads. Is this true? If so, is there a way to prevent that look?

thanks!

Twist and Rip and Backcombing

Dreading Methods

Sorry- I'm such a noob, but is it possible to combine twist and rip and backcombing when starting dreads? I'm not sure which way to go, or which would form better dreads. opinions?
