Dreadlock Styles and Dread Styling

Thanks for sharing. I love the look of organic dreads, they each have their own original beauty and years of stories.

dreadlocks and how they change you

Wow, who are the dumbasses that say you need to cut them off to get a job. If they are clean, and you are presentable and friendly, that will get you the job . Gotta say it again...dumbasses

Besides being healthier, his story is why a person should grow their dreads and not pay for them to be made. The journey is an amazing soul changing experience that teaches us so much. It seems silly to think your hair can do that, but it does, and his post shows that. We all become a better person in this small world of ours.....peace

Not everyone keeps their dreadlocks for a lifetime. This fine young fellow felt the experience it took him through, made him a better person and embraced what they taught him. It was his time to move on without dreadlocks and he is thankful for all he learned by growing them. What's to understand???

Some of you don't understand how Tyler John Rakowski could possibly cut off his 3 year old dreads. I completely understand him. Like Kerry said, he was once a cocoon and turned into a butterfly & spread his wings to fly. By growing his dreads with love, they have taught him so much about his strength, patience and his inner being. He is at peace now and has grown into a beautiful human being and is now ready for a new chapter in his life. I am proud of this young man to change his life around in three short years. Throughout our lives, we go through changes, we come to a fork in the road and go left instead of right. Sometimes in these new paths, we may shed a little bit of us along the way, but we keep what we have learned, what we have become on the inside. He is now prepared for what life lays ahead and will embrace the challenges. Good for him. I wish you Mr.Tyler all the best that your present and future life will offer you and know that whatever path you take, you will be prepared.....Peace to you

Hi Tyler. Very touching that you hugged each and every lock after they left your body. When at any other time would we ever hug our cut off hairs? They are a part of us with the history. May you keep your spiritual peace in the next chapter of your young life.

So sick of people bashing the natural method. I have begun to voice my opinion.

Dreading Methods

If EVERYONE would realize we are human beings, regardless of colour, then the world would be a much better place.... Well... except we still have politicians.

Very dignified and well said. Your future will hold long & healthy dreads that sway with the summer breeze.

help with dreadlock accelerators?

General Questions

I should add that when doing the twist & rip method, they need to loosen before they start their journey, so your sections take one step back before dreading. On the other hand, free form/neglect method section on their own and then start to dread/shrink etc., no step back. So T&R take longer. You are only at 3 months and are doing just fine. I found that on mine (I also did T&R), the skinner sections were just made a little tighter than the larger sizes, so that is why they are taking longer to dread...perhaps that is how yours are too. But remember, no worries, they will loosen in time.

help with dreadlock accelerators?

General Questions

Hi Olivia. Don't worry, don't worry, don't worry. I am at my 11 month mark and a few of my dreads are still mid way down my back and most are above my shoulders. Some sections have barely dreaded at all, but they will.....so will yours. I also found that the larger sections did form faster, and that's okay, I can wait. Smaller dreads add dimension and variation, it gives more of a natural look. Don't combine because of time, just wait. If you do combine, please keep in mind that the section where it meets the scalp should not be any larger than a 25 cent coin. The larger sizes take longer to dry and are heavier as they mature.

As for an accelerator, make sure you are washing 2-3 times a week, it speeds up the dread process

Cheers, & happy dreading
