Semi-mature dreads feeling softer
Dread Maintenance
Probably the palm rolling is breaking the hairs all over, so now all those little hairs are popping/sticking out and gives it the fuzzy look.
What is tonic? Is it tonic water as in a gin & tonic?

Many of you have asked about dying / coloring your dreadlocks. Some of us reply (like me) how doing it is bad for your locks, (you never want any residues stuck inside them & dying can dry them out). Well, I was thinking today while having my 20 minute siesta in the tub.
My dreads are for life, but I am much older than most of you on here. Many members in this community are teens & early 20's. At this moment in their life, some want to have beautiful dreads as a hair style, they love the look, (who can blame them), and they love the freedom that dreads signify & some as a form of saying f*ck the government, whatever the reason, they want to express their being in an art form. To the members who only want dreads for now, not still 10 years from now, I say have fun with them...add spice & color to them, but just be careful, rinse, rinse & rinse. Dreadlocks are a wonderful way to express yourself already, and for the younger generation: adding beads & hemp wraps & hair dye is a fun addition. If any of you are not planning to keep your dreads forever, do what you want...have a blast...get creative...and enjoyyour dreads.
Peace out everyone
That's funny. If I bought this product, not only can I manufacture my dreads, but I can clean my sneakers, polish my shoes, groom my pet, massage my pet, clean my suede, polish my silverware, wash my pots, dry my glasses, have a vibrating hair brush AND use as a feather duster.

Shit, never heard of the rotating multi head thingy, I can't believe that someone would actually sit down and pay someone to use this on their head...WTF

just like the rotating multi head reciprocating dreadlocks tool thingy that spins round the dread firing cricxhet hookes through it tearing it to shreads
there is a video somewhere on this site that shows the block you are talking about. African Americans rub it on their head (short hair) in circles and it makes dreads. Seems weird but it works, is it safe? Don't know
Hi Tyler, Have patience, straight hair will dread. Some hair texture just takes longer than others. There is another dreadie on here who started when I did, and her locks are further along than mine. No worries.
Just make sure you stay away from any shampoos that make the hair silky or conditions. No head & shoulders either. Also, try using seal salt to help speed up the process for you. Peace
Thanks for sharing. Sections are looking great. Peace to you and the little one.
Wondering why hair does not dread when not trying: A few reasons why hair does not dread if you have not combed it in years is the care that you took to them. Our fingers have natural body oil, so when we touch our hair, we leave behind some oils, so any knots that may try to form would fall out. Most, if not almost all, shampoos have oils & chemicals & such in them that make hair silky. This coats the hairs, preventing knotting to happen. When normal hair gets washed, the head is scrubbed all over, & sometimes conditioner is used. For forming dreads, they should be washed with little or no touching to prevent removing any knotting process, that is why the baking soda wash is recommended when first starting.
So there you are, just a few reasons why.... I am sure there are more.
Rubber bands break down in warm water and from shampoos, soaps, baking soda etc. When they break down, they can be eaten by your hair section and work its way inside the twist & rip section. Rubber bands get sticky when wet or deteriorating and and will attract lint, odors, pollution etc to get stuck to the sticky. No Good. Use beads instead=Good
Hi N. Twist and rip is only a blue print, They will NOT stay looking how they do now. The ideal way to start t&r is to let the hair separate naturally for a couple of weeks, then do the twists. So if you sectioned them on your own, some may be fighting to go where they would have naturally. You can't force them to stay in a certain direction, like towards the back, they go where they want to. Did you keep the sections no larger than 1 inch, any larger and they can take 24 hours or more to dry once mature.
Your changes will be shrinking, loosening, looping and frizzies. You can't change any this, it is part of the journey. If you wash & separate any joining sections, then you will be fine, that's all you need to do.
Don't worry about how they look, just enjoy the ride, Peace
