A Successful Recovery!

Saved Dreads Success Stories

Last year in August my friend Alex wanted dreadies so bad. He was going to get his hair dresser friend to do his locks. When he told me how she was going to do them I said 'NO DICE!' And proceeded to take over. I Tried to persuade him to go natural, But he is an impatient fucker and wanted them done asap.

So I spent the better part of two days breastfeeding, and dreading his hair, while watching the Big Labowski. I sectioned his hair, and twist and ripped some little puppies in. I gave him an aloe plant (because I have a million) and a little bottle of apple cidervinegar, some tea tree oil, and some sea salt. Told him what not to do, and what to do...which was nothing :P

Anyways the fucker didn't listen, and at about 7 months into his journey he came over, and I yelled at him because he interlocked the shit out of his hair. I have never seen someone fuck their dreads up so badly! This is a picture of after I attempted to undo some of the damage. noah%20005.JPG and another noah%20007.JPG

It has been about 4 months since I attempted to undo his doing, and now look at them!!!!!

Time will heal the wounds, but they are getting pretty wonderful! :)

Adding a friend's lock into my hair

Dread Maintenance

I used cotton thread to tie my dreads in together. twist and ripped the loose roots to the loose ends, and wrapped the thread around and tied.

Big ass hair

General Talk

This is very random...thought I would share.

I don't get out much, comes with the whole new mom package heheh! Last time I was out, my dear friend Chani commented on my hair. She has a way with words haha.

She said 'Carina, Your hair is disproportionate to the rest of your body. Every time you get skinnier, your hair gets bigger...Fucking weirdo. You look crazy!'

Hahahah, oh man, I almost choked on my beer when she said that, and nearly peed laughing.

Its true, my hair is taking over my body. Muahahah

General Talk

I did this once, Used Kankelon(sp?) hair....I could not stand how it felt on my skin. Synthetic hair blows!! They are fun to braid in for a party or something but I could not handle the feeling of fakeness on my body. I'm also a very textural person...I could spend hours touching things, especiallysoft things, like some kind of burnt out Etard hahah! Good luck though, they can be fun to make, and you can do all kind of crazy colours. Weee!

My Dreadful Journey!

Introduce Yourself

Hi everyone! Names Carina. I'm 21, Live in BC with my soon to be Husband, and our baby girl. I have an addiction to dreadlocks. I have had dreads in the past, and I just can't stop putting knots in my hair. Last time I did dreads I used wax, I hated loose hairs, I hated bumps, Loops, You name it, I hated it. I spend a retarded amount of time on my hair. I also looked retarded at the start of my dreading process. I dyed my hair as well. Also a stupid mistake! Never again.

I couldnt figure out why I hated my hair so much, and when it started smelling like moldy sweater I vowed that I would never again dread my hair, because I thought it was the dreads, and not the wax. I was a Noob. Straight up dread noob! Haha.

I have since learned the error of my ways. I found this site, and when i looked at pictures i discovered that the dreads I love, the look i craved the whole time was the beauty of the natural neglect dreads.

This time I did things differently. I still did a bit of twist and ripping, but mostly I just leave my hair the hell alone. I had one that was flat, and so when it was wet i T&R and rolled it a bit. Doing this I copletely changed the shape, I regreted it. The flat crazy ones are now my fvorite. I love all my dreads, all the loops, the bumps and loose hairs! Complete turn around eh!

I do not use product. I was with apple cider vinigar, I use tea tree and pepermint oil, I also use coconut oil ssometimes, and use aloe vera.

I love this site, and I love the information! Good to meet ya.

Can I color my hair?

Dread Maintenance

the first couple times i had dreads i coloured them......i would personally never do it again, it got kind of gross. I feel your pain! I'm 21, and been going grey since age 12! I know lots of people who use Henna as a natural hair dye. I would use something like that....believe it or not Manic Panic hair dye is 100% vegan and made from vegtible dyes and oils.
