I'm Traddy and these are my dreads...!

Introduce Yourself

yeah you dont really have to sleep with anything on your head. the tshirt is normally used to prevent loose hairs from forming and to stop congos, but if you're nto having a problem with either i wouldnt worry about it, and even if ya did id say dont sweat it, nothing wrong with loose hair, i got tons of it. and i wouldnt worry about the thinning of the ones you're talkin bout. it probably is just the weight of the dreads where as before they were curling in and dreadding in big thick clumps cause of your curly hair (i know cause from what i can tell we have very similar hair types. so yeah its probably just the weight of the dreads pulling them a lil straighter as the new growth dreads. i gotta say though ive never seen quite so much visible scalp at the top. but that might be just because of your very even part and the lack of loose hair. mine are like all over the place at the top. oh also on the note of the thin dreads, everyone has sections of their hair where its thinner. mine's on the sides and everyones is a little thinner on the edges i think. bothers me alot my side dreads are the thinnest. anyway hope my tips were helpful

General Talk

i just wanna say i love this site. at this point i know how to take care of my locs and am doing them completely natural, i encourage congos occasionally with wraps and just leave them be other than that and washing. i even love my loose hairs haha.

i love going on this site, even when im not looking for more tips or encouragement i just love to sit and look at all the beautiful dread pictures on the home page and everything. if you havent checked em out you have to, there's some amazing ones. im practically a connoisseur haha

sold on loose tips

crochet and dread tools recovery

i started doing my dreadlocks with lots of crocheting and other maintenance as some of you know (which was exceedingly stupid considering i used twist and rip). when i finally conceded to the natural method, i swore that when my dread's matured, i would keep the no maintenance lifestyle, but would blunt the tips once again.

now since beginning my natural dreading journey, i have encountered a ridiculous amount of loose hairs, loose tips, and even looping dreads.

and i am loving every bit of it. and recently ive noticed that i actually like the loose tips and natural look. plus because my hair was so curly before dreads, my tips curl and because of this, some of them are actually beginning to blunt all on their own.

so i have finally been sold on the natural way of dreading. had i never done any maintenance THIS would have never happened to one of them:

see how its so very thin in the middle? thats from undoing the damage done by weeks of ill-informed maintenance. i want to thank this site for saving my dreads before the damage became irreparable.

General Questions

ok so anyone who's seen me comment or post on this site before knows i have twist and rip locs. so i was just wondering, if i use dread sleeves (otherwise known as peyote stitches, if there's a more proper name for them i dont know it) will they make my dreads stay thin? cause the sleeves stretch and all and theyre not tight, just tight enough to stay, but i was worried they might keep them thin. any knowledge on this?

Eyes Opened (my twist and rip timeline, with some mistakes in the middle)

Saved Dreads Success Stories

yeah i washed them a whole bunch to get rid of the wax. one has even been taken apart since then (that was the last one i ended up combining, and there was absolutely no wax left in it. it wasnt even really wax, it was this stuff called miracle grow. it just slowed down the locking so much by slickening it up.

and i dunno i just like the way my dreads look blunted better than the loose hair. and i havent really had a problem with the drying, they dry in like a good 6 hours fully. i squeeze em and shake em real good before i start drying. besides i just find the extra time worth the sacrifice for the look. but im not gonna blunt the tips until they mature. you cant tell in the pictures that well but almost all the tips are loose now. so im not gonna waste the time to reblunt them every day like i been. im just gonna do it when theyre mature and itll only have to be the once and then itll just stay. til then im completely leaving them be other than washing and keeping the loose hairs next to the dread they belong to. i wouldnt even do that except for the fact that i cannot afford any congos haha. too few locs.

and thank you. the support is real encouraging while im still in the awkward beginning stages of the dreads. though i truly am enjoying how healthy and natural they look now that i stopped. i just quit it all and washed em a bunch of times to undo most of it.
