They din't seem very dready

General Talk

Ah well, good thing I only did it the one time.

And again, I do separate, but not as much as I should. The really big ones are far tooentangledto separate at this point, I think.

Yea. I don't separate as often as I should. What's the best way to do that?

I did separate in the back and left side because they were almost one big mat. So, I cut vertically to get em a little separated.

I wash with Dr. Bronners once a week. Sometimes I switch to the BS/ACV rinse.

The first picture was the main one that got me. It just looks like a shaggy mess. :P

I mean most people can tell by now they are. I Just wish I had Bob Marley dreads. But I know that won't happen. At least not yet. :p

I have individual locks, but they dont' look all neat and ready. It almost looks, at first likes like I just have really messy hair.

But they turned a year old a month ago, so I can't complain too much. :)

Ocean water

Dread Products

I wouldn't bottle ocean water. Just buy sea salt at your local grocer. All progress is good progress. February will mark my 1 year dreadversary and my hair is still doing crazy frizzy things. It just takes time and patience.

Hi, there!

Introduce Yourself

  1. Absolutely not! Sea Salt is about the only thing you want. Keep it natural all the way any product you use will just slow the process down.
  2. Again natural! Let your hair do what it wants to do. You want to leave the ends lose because that will help your hair dry quicker and help prevent mildew and stinkiness.
  3. Stop rubbing! Leaving it alone. It'll lock up over time. Rubbing is time consuming and uncomfortable. You'll enjoy your dreads a lot more if you just let them do their thing.
  4. I use Dr. Bronner's Tea Tree and Hemp Shampoo. It's good stuff. Keep up with that or use the Baking Soda Vinegar rinse if you have hard water. And WASH YOUR HAIR! Clean hair is happy hair!

Also, welcome to the site and enjoy your journey!

natural dreads and work

Introduce Yourself

You could use aloe to help keep it looking neat and tidy when you're at work.

If your hair is longer you can use an elastic band or something to put it up. That's just a thought.

Preparing

Introduce Yourself

I was my hair 3 times a weeek. Monday Wednesday and Friday (days vary depending on my schedule.)

I do salt water spray once a week. It doesn't seem to make a huge difference, it just kind of dries and frizzes up the hair a little. SE suggest doing it before washing. Don't leave it in too long (like all day) or your scalp with be very upset with you.

That's my newbie advice. I'm still at the beginning stages myself, I hope that helps until someone who is more in the know pops in. :)
