Knot Issues

Help! Save My Dreads

Stop messing with them. The white stuff could be hair follicles from be pulled by the bands. Don't backcomb them or anything just wash (non residue wash or bs & avc) separate and let them be they'll lock up in time when theyre ready. Just enjoy the journey. Blessings

Close to cutting off my baby dreads.

Dread Maintenance

My locks are 6 months and a lot of them still have looser tips. I started using the dreadlock shampoo from buck country ( dreadlockshampoo.com) and have noticed my roots beginning to lock up more and quickly. Stop going to the salon just get a good dreadlock shampoo, wash, separate and let them happen in there own time. Locks arent even remotely considered mature until at least one full year, so your not even half way yet so be patient and love the journey and you will be greatly blessed.

separation

Dread Maintenance

Wet hair has more elasticity to it so it's less painful than doing it dry. I found I prefer to do it when it's about half way dry, for me when it's wet it seems my hair just stretches instead of separating but if I wait till its a little dryer it separates like wet without hurting like dry. Just play around with it try separating at different degrees of wet and dry and see what works best for you. I also found that doing some separation while washing helps too.

Let's Get Personal

General Talk

I have always liked the way they looked, but my reasoning for dreading were more emotional and spiritual than anything else. For me it was like a (extremely long overdue)dedication to myself as a witch,a way to connect with nature on a deeper level, to enhance my intuition, show my freedom. I started going though a lot of changes prior to starting my journey and dreading was another stepping stone for me on my path. I love them so much.

My husband wants to use wax!

Dread Maintenance

First off I think it's really great that you and your husband are dreading together. Second, as mentioned above, he really does need to do his own research esecially since he wont listen to what you have found. I almost went the Knotty Boy route and then I found this site and saw all the pics and discussions by people whose hair was destroyed by it. Thankfully because of all the info and support here I went the natural route. that was 6 months ago and my locks are amazing. Messy is normal and rouge hairs are just part of the process, they'll find their way into a lock when it's time. Unfortunalty some do have to learn the hard way and he may not heed your warnings or the warnings on this site. If that's the case it's probably best to let him do what he wants instead of beating a dead horse, although I hope it doesn't come to that for him. Good luck with convincing and educating and Blessings on your journey

Natural dreadlocks tips (post them here)

Dreading Methods

I started mine in January when I simply threw away my brush.I use sea slat water, wash with bs, separate when necessary and not really worry about them. I am 5 months in and am totally dreaded now they are jus maturing. I love watching them grow and change day by day. I am gunna miss the zigzags, those ones always make me smile :) . I think the most important part is to just simply enjoy the journey.
