workplace discrimination

Introduce Yourself

so im looking for a new job. the first company i tried to go with was TMC they are known as The Marine Corps of trucking and are very strict, they had a no long hair policy unless you a woman and a no tattoo policy, i didnt even bother arguing with them since from what i read this was not the company for me.

I found maverick transportation out of Arkansas and after almost a month of their recruitment process they have decided to hire me. Now when i spoke to a recruiter in person in my home town i specifically asked him about their policy on long hair, his answer was "you can have long hair as long as its kept clean. You can have dreadlocks as long as they are clean. No gauged ears or hoop earings" thats what made me apply and wait for the almost month to get hired since they pay much more than any other flatbed company i could find.

Today i was supposed to book my flight down to orientation i got my acceptance email with all the things i need to bring with me along with some of their policy's they state for the dress policy section :

Dress Policy

Must be clean and have neatly trimmed hair, beard, and mustache. Must
maintain good personal and dental hygiene.

Maverick does not allow: Pony tails, hoop earrings, facial piercings,
tank tops, hats/clothing or tattoos with lewd or suggestive matter.

Shorts are allowed on Maverick property only, and they must be hemmed or
cuffed.

Please be sure to bring a long sleeved shirt, cuffed or hemmed long
pants, and a pair of steel toed boots. (Some of our customers do not
allow you on their property without them.)

So unless you are a woman sounds like you in fact cannot have long hair or ponytails. What can i say to them to make this an illegal practice. My hair is in fact very clean and in a hair tie even looks neat. I have wasted a month on this and dont want to go work somewhere else for .36 cents per mile. please help, i know soaring eagle was saying in some other posts that this is discrimination and should not be allowed nor tolerated. Im a trucker for god sake. some of those guys look like they just crawled out of a trash can.

General Talk

Was this opened for discussion again?

"kid can't comprehend a world w/ legal weed...silly"

Weed is still illegal on a federal level brother. and here in Michigan police departments all got lists of people with medical and caregiver cards with home addresses. Which they said was never going to happen, but it did. When you got that card you waived your right for a warrant for them to enter your house. You can no longer own a fire arm and have a medical card as well. They are even going as far as trying to take driver licenses away from those with cards, which i cant understand. But they state that if you are a patient your going to be driving impaired.

it is my civil right to express my religios beliefs in my own way you cannot deny me that right there already have been thousands of lawsuits won for this exaxct thing so every momment im sitting art hio=ome not workin g for you i;\'ll be paid fpr anyway so you might as well get some work out of me since its your money you'll be giving me one way or the other

you \got to know your rights and stand up for them

the long hair policy cannot violate freedom of religion pentecostald s and nazarites cannot cut the hair and no job can make em

even the military you can rwequest a relifgios exzception to the hair policy ti keep your dreads

yeah. they had a policy. no facial hair and no hair past the collar. you might be able to go to court over it but lawyers aren't free and neither is rent. so while you wait for a judge to hear your case your still at home not making money. i know it's bullshit but since civil service jobs are usually set up para military if they dont like the way you look you just won't get hired. I remember many a 100 degree days when i was stuck wearing long sleeves to cover up my tattoos.

the paremedic job you could have kept em..if u fought for it get the policy in writting and if needed let the courts decide the fireman job on the other hand is 1 of there few exceptions due to the o2 mask fit

there are very very few and highly specialized jobs that would require no dreads
