An new before and after thread

dread wax and dread kits recovery

So this topic might be around here somewhere, but I thought it would be interesting to start a thread for people to post pics of the locks from their first set that they mistakenly made with wax of a kit, and their locks now, now that they are healthy and clean.

I have a few pictures of my first mistake at my parents house that I'll pick up this weekend. They look neat, but definitely unhealthy.

Eyes Opened (my twist and rip timeline, with some mistakes in the middle)

Saved Dreads Success Stories

That's what I meant, Eagle. Blunting in any case is harmful. Cutting them will almost always leave them to be blunt unless you spend time trying to undo them. I can understand people wanting to cut them because they get too long for their liking. But to cut them just because they want blunted tips seems irresponsible.

It is up to the person, themselves. We'll always be here to help give advice on how to dry them faster for those who bunted.

I can see in a few of the later pics that they are looser at the tips. But if at 2 months they are taking 6 hours to dry, at 1 year, you'll be like me taking 24 hours. Careful with that. PM me if at any point you want some pointers on how to help cutting down on that time. The long they take to dry, the better chance of mold growing.

I'm willing to take the time to dry them, because I have really fat roots. Most people have between 25-45 locks. I have 12- 14. The size alone makes them take longer. Your's will be fat too. The combination ofgirth and blunted tips will make it harder than you might want. But I'm always here to help you out. Some people like what they like. I just want to make it more pleasant for them

They look much better now. Did you manage to get all the wax out, or are you just banking on hoping it's all out from how they feel? Wax tends to stick around long after you think it's all gone. It's just hidden deep inside.

As for blunting, why did you decide to do it? Blunting adds hours and hours to it's drying time. Some of mine blunted on their own, and now it can take an easy 24 hours to completely dry. I understand people cutting them when they get longer than they want. In that case they will blunt, but to do it intentionally for cosmetic reasons is harmful to your locks.

I'm glad you realized how damaging and time consuming maintenance is. Hopefully you'll enjoy your locks more now that you are letting them be

what to do about loose hair?

Introduce Yourself

Your friends "look" good, but they won't lock up well, and will be weak. The wax inhibits knots, and the crochet hook breaks long strands of hair into smaller strands of hair. So instead of having her locks attached to her head, she'll have locked hairs attached to other locked hairs attached to other locked hairs and so on until the last bunch is attached to her head. I'd rather know that the hair at the bottom of my lock is the same hair growing out of my scalp.

at 1 month, you should have loose hairs. It's natural. That's how they progress. I'm 5 years in and still have loose hairs. You might not be able to see them in my pics, but definitely in some of my vids.

Don't worry about it. They gt pulled into other locks in time, or knot on their own. Sometimes it's just the angel of the root that makes them take longer, but it won't last forever.

Does palm rolling make dreads skinnier?

Dread Maintenance

From experience it does thin them out a little bit, but more so because it pulls out hair from the root and breaks hairs into pieces. It does more damage that is worth

Help! Save My Dreads

At this point, I'd hate to say it, but it would probably be best to comb them out and wash all of the wax out. If you went through the harsh treatment to get rid of wax, you'd most likely be undoing all of the progress you did already.

If you just start over without wax, you'll see faster and healthier progress.

Helloooo

Introduce Yourself

Could, but wouldn't. My girlfriend and I were planning on camping in Big Sur for our honneymoon. We love hiking and camping. Taking a train would seem cheap somehow. We'll probably do it when our kids are older, but not too old that we can't hike anymore
