Blue wax-like residue in my dreads

dread wax and dread kits recovery

My dreads are currently 5 years old and are completely natural. No hooking, waxing, ect. Just purely let them do their own thing. Regardless of this approach, I seem to have some form of residue in my dreadlocks that is blue-ish, with no smell and I recall it being a little sticky (if I rubbed it) if I managed to get some out of my dreads. I am of the impression that this could most likely be the residue of conditioners featuring emulsifying wax and in turn I no longer use any conditioners for some time now. I recall noticing discussions about this issue and I remember that certain products on the dreadlockssite shop can help remove such waxes from your hair.

I'll add a picture or two when I have the time.

Thank you for your time.

My curiousity on dreadlock roots

Dread Maintenance

Strangely, It's always been a bit like that.

Early in the piece my mother did used to pester me with the use of a crochet hook which might be the issue. Regardless I'll just let it go and hopefully.. It's not thinning.

As I understand it, that amount of loose hair is normal. I notice that you have thinning hair. Is that due to ageing or did you do crochet or use a locking tool at the roots? either would cause thinning hair, or loss of hair. If it's from using a locking tool or crochet, it may recover and get thicker again with no root trauma. If it's nature taking it's course, then it's just normal. Happy Day!

My curiousity on dreadlock roots

Dread Maintenance

Point taken, thanks once again. I am not entirely into thick massive dreadlocks, I have quite alot of skinny ones though. Which I believe will have to be bonded into other dreadlocks.

Perhaps I should post up a picture of some of the roots I am concerned of?

Thanks for the advice, I'll have to look for some beads to form them together. Could I find such beads around any hair salon or are they specifically for dreadlocks?

Your advice is logical and no doubt you have an abundance of knowledge on dreadlocks. Looks like I have some bonding to commence!

I have not come across dreadlocks that sprout out with several different branches. It will be some interesting looking hair in the end.

Thank you for answering my call for wisdom Soaring Eagle.

dont do a thing they need that 1/4-1/2 inch there loose to move and knot and dreazd its completyely normal and healthy

now the thinner ones u can let them combine (takes bout 3 months of no seperation) or bead 2 together near the roots (not super comfy) or take hemp or embroidery thread and wrap the base of 2 together

My curiousity on dreadlock roots

Dread Maintenance

The roots themselves are what I believe to be "Loose". I have a few centimetres of "hair" that then form into dreadlocks.

I have been thinking of placing a rubber band around the root which would perhaps knot it up. But it appears that this would just stress the root and cause damage instead of "repair".

My "thinner" dreadlocks are my primary concern, especially after a shower I am certain if I tried hard enough I could tear them out myself.

My curiousity on dreadlock roots

Dread Maintenance

Hello Community, this is a bit of an introduction and question in one.

Several months ago I was searching up about dreadlocks and such. I figured it should be a topic that I take more interest in considering I have had my own dreads for around 8 years.

I came across the website "Dreadheadhq" I took some interest, but I found the adverts degrading, not entirely sure how. So I continued my search and came across this site right here.

The information on this site I found messy but accurate and the accuracey is what mattered as far as I am concerned.

So I took up the decision of signing upto this website.

But now for my "curiousity".

I now have had my dreadlocks for around 8 years I believe. they were a great decision but I am growing concerned about my roots. I feel that they might be becoming "loose" perhaps it is just me, so I took it upon myself to check out the information on this forum.

It appears that "All Natural"as in leaving the dread alone seems to be the popular method on this site. Which is pretty much what I have done for the majority of the time I have had dreadlocks. Perhaps this method only works on certain people with the appropriate hair?

The method does sound logical, they're dreadlocks just leave them and they will do their thing. Why so much hassle?

I have around 1-2 inches of loose hair around the majority of my dreadlocks. It would be a shame to lose some of them.

Perhaps I need to start "fusing" some dreadlocks together?
